Social justice? Bah, humbug!
You want to study Yiddish, there's a 15-lesson course on You Tube. You want to see Yiddish spoken in a film, I recommend Lauf Junge Lauf, a 2013 multilingual film with Yiddish spoken in the beginning end that is so perfect I could almost believe the actors are native speakers. Or Menashe, released in 2017, depicting life in Williamsburg among the Satmar Chassidim for an impoverished single father. The actual Hungarian dialect is spoken almost throughout.

FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, in YIDDISH, has been running on off off Broadway and then, off Broadway, starring Joel Grey ( who can't speak Yiddish ) to great acclaim, for over a year now. And it's drawing big crowds; not all of whom speak or understand Yiddish.
This seems to be a rather silly award and to throw in the "social justice" garbage makes it even worse.

My first boss taught me some Yiddish. It amused him to have a skinny wasp kid speak it. He was a great guy and I miss him.
Of course he taught me many other things of great value.

I had no interest in watching his role in any of his characters. Acting was never natural & way over rated for any of his acting.

Here’s the url for the start of my Yiddish course...
A friend of the family took a security job in the middle east. For a vacation, Israel was recommended.
He stayed at a B&B and had a great time!
Telling everyone of the good time he had, his supervisor told him the company had a position open in Israel but a requirement was to be conversational in Hebrew. (Not Yiddish)
He emailed his new Israeli friends and they sent some texts and they would Skype... Some months later he passed the test and relocated! (he is very smart)
After some time, he asked his mother to come to visit (his father had passed.)
His mother said she did not want to be ‘blown up’!
So she came for a quick three-day visit, she enjoyed it.
And returned every month or two.
He has now returned to stateside after five? six? years.
