A Justice Department watchdog is expected to strongly criticize FBI officials for being careless in their pursuit of obtaining wiretaps on a former Trump campaign aide during the start of the Russia probe, but not find they were acting with a bias toward President Trump, The New York Times reported Friday afternoon.
But the highly anticipated report from the Department of Justice Inspector General is also expected to say top agency leaders did not act with a bias toward against President Trump in terms of how they undertook the probe.
In particular, the DOJ IG, Michael Horowitz, faulted Kevin Clinesmith, a lower-level lawyer, for altering an email that bureau officials then incorporated in their effort to renew a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrant on Carter Page.
The DOJ watchdog has referred his findings about Clinesmith, who resigned two months ago, to prosecutors for a potential criminal charge, the Times reported.

Once Barr has it, it is his decision to proceed with more investigations and if warranted, indict those who deserve indictment.

I won’t be surprised if it happens this way. Trump seems set on having AGs will no spine. Sessions was close to his worst mistake during his presidency, and if Barr sits on the information, Barr will approach Sessions territory.
Barr won’t sit on anything. He came in from the outside for the sole purpose of raising some hell. He didn’t need the job and doesn’t care who he stomps on.
The entire Mueller witch hunt is retroactively null and void.

We’ve known all along Horowitz is an establishment guy, and that since he has no authority to prosecute he’s likely to drift in the direction of establishment politics.
Not only were mistakes made, but there was no willful or intentional effort to subvert justice and no reasonable prosecutor would bring such a case.
They found their lower-tier, fall guy, scapegoat, Kevin Clinesmith. That’s all the cover they needed.
