I saw another report that there had been a big call up of their basij riot control thugs - a half million according to that rumor, which would be about everybody.

Even with their part time hired muscle, the regime is far outnumbered by the population. If people start individually attacking the regime personnel themselves, instead of clustering together into crowds for focused oppression. The regime can’t be everywhere at once. Even big demonstrations in a few dozen different cities at once would be challenging for them to manage and resource.

Maybe a tipping point is coming. A lot of Iranians have to have been preparing for it, as things have clearly been heading for an economic crash, and possible regime collapse all year. Individual escape plans are likely widespread in the regime.

A few pictures of mullahs and Revolutionary Guards officers hanging from streetlights, might go a long way, in setting off a stampede. Some will probably try ordering mass murder if things get really bad for them, because murder has been the underpinning of the regime, they have been conditioned to rely on it. But when such oppressive regime’s mechanisms of oppression fail to meet the task, their end is typically swift.

Maybe this big tax on essential fuel will be their “Let them eat cake” moment.

That’s not the way rebellions (or successful military operations) work. Typically, you mass against the enemy’s vulnerable spots. That means mobs against individual policemen and attacks against family members. When cops have to choose between defending the regime and defending their families, they’ll choose their families.
