I grew up in a potential blast area near an Air Force base. We enjoyed the air raid drills as children in the ‘60s. They brought a small but welcome break from the mean teachers. We took cover under our desks with our hands over the backs of our necks. It was cool, just like the movies. The drills happened at the same time of the day on the same day of each month.
