As President Trump launches a new initiative to court black voters, Republican strategist Kimberly Klacik hopes to help his efforts by running for respected Congressman Elijah Cummings' seat in Maryland.
The former chairman of the House Oversight and Reform Committee passed away in October at the age of 68 after battling health problems.
As a vocal critic, Cummings had feuded with the president over living conditions in Baltimore which the president said was a "rat and rodent infested mess."

I heard this morning that Cummings’ widow will run for that seat also.
As you say, flipping the seat is unlikely, but I give Klacik credit for entering the fray.
Talk about the rats and Baltimore corruption and disregard for the citizens who are forced to live in that mess of a city
Keep it local, personal and direct with people and we could see an upset here
Campaign strategy
Organize local clean up efforts, street by street
Get people to register to vote
Candidate and staff should be present
Pressing the flesh and helping with the efforts is a visual that is hard to beat
too many voters want ‘free obama phones’ to vote republican even though the liberals destroy the cities they govern- the city is falling apart but by golly they got their ‘free’ obama phones
“Respected” congressman? I listened to Kool And The Gang when I learned he kicked his oxygen addiction, then went about making my own Elijah Cummings on the porcelain throne.
What should be done for the campaign is to print out flyers with photos of democRAT run districts and have volunteers walk and hand them out in the district.
Show them the proof of what districts under democrats look like. Detroit, LA, SAN Fran, Baltimore, etc.
Mission impossible!

I am a former citizen of Maryland. I lived about 30 miles from Baltimore. I hate to say this, but the chances of the people in that District voting for a Republican are nil.
They would rather live in rat infested squalor then give up all the freebies. Crime it’s not just something that goes on there, it is a way of life.
Kimberly Klacik might just be able to pull it off.
Widow Cummings was under investigation for misappropriation of funds or some such, plus the old Tammany Hall approach of the Cummings dynasty has delivered nothing but a rat infested hole.
But not everyone, in fact food stamp participation is shrinking causing the Dems to go insane. That is their base.
Run a campaign on cleaning up Baltimore both physically and politically is a winning strategy here.
End of the day, people like clean neighborhoods, safe streets and no political corruption.

We still don’t know the proximate cause of death. Cummings dies suddenly and the `Giant of the House’s’ political record is erased, not celebrated, other than in the Capitol rotunda.
Something’s being seriously covered up.
It will be hard to win. Perhaps we could run a DINO in the primary. A bunch of DINO candidates in dem districts. If they win they pull a jumping Jim Jeffords. That would be fun.
She has my vote.

“Widow” Cummings appears to be rather corrupt. I’m sure that plays well in Baltimore, but why would Cummings’ constituents abandon his widow?
I mean, I really hope this challenger wins, but I think the widows often retain the seats.
