A Not-So-Special Relationship: Facing Voters, Johnson Backs Away From Trump
New York Times ^ | Nov. 6, 2019 Updated 5:38 p.m. ET | Mark Landler

Prime Minister Boris Johnson of Britain spoke with President Trump by phone on Tuesday, and to judge by the dueling summaries of the call provided by the White House and 10 Downing Street, Mr. Johnson and Mr. Trump were involved in two completely different conversations.....Such divergent accounts of a leader-to-leader call are not unheard-of, but the timing of this one, on the eve of Britain’s general election campaign, was telling. It shows just how much of a liability Mr. Trump has become for Mr. Johnson. Once, the prime minister talked up the benefits of having a close friend in the White House; now he is distancing himself from a figure who is radioactive to many Britons.

Probably the NYT trying to foment trouble with Boris, but if this is true then Boris deserves to lose the election for backstabbing Trump after all his support

If the NYT could, they would cause a thermo nuclear war with Russia to spite Trump.

Boris is just like May and Cameron.
I hope the Brexit Party throws a monkey wrench in the coming elections.

>> Boris is just like May and Cameron. <<

I tried to explain this to FReepers numerous times, but it fell on deaf ears.

Ideologically, Boris Johnson has a lot more in common with Mitt Romney than Donald Trump. Take away his pro-Brexit position (which apparently he only backed to be "maverick" and thumb his nose at the mainstream media rather than because he genuinely believed in the cause, like how Romney ran as a hardliner against illegal aliens in the 2012 GOP primary even though he personally felt differently)

The UK hasn't had an actual conservative as Prime Minister since Margaret Thatcher, and would need someone like Jacob Rees-Mogg to have one again.

I agree.

And I had such high hopes.

Bur seriously, “Johnson backs away from Trump?”
I don’t think so. More than likely that President Trump realized Boris is wobblier than he thought and Backed Away from him.

Here’s why: Trump and Farage (BRExit) are more aligned philosophically than Trump and Boris Johnson.

mittens lost his mind when he had the charity boxing match against holeyfield. I knew then that he was an attention whore.

Also, i am only reading now that Boris is like this and not such a right wing nationalist after all.

BTW, I use the term “right wing nationalist” as a VERY positive thing. I’m not the ny times.

Regarding boris, I guess many FReepers were just hoping and I should have done my own research on him anyway.

But i’m lazy :)

Boris Johnson has the opportunity to do great things, but if he does it will be in spite of himself. If he lets Trump and others pull him over the finish line it will be because he was at the right place at the right time, nothing more. There’s nothing great about Boris Johnson. He’s Britain’s version of a RINO.
