That is sort of the point I was making though. Many people who are migrating to the US (legally, to make it clear again) are coming from countries where, although they might be well-off due to the internal purchasing power of their currency, would not be able to reach this bar of "having enough money for health insurance".

I'll give an example. I know people who live in Russia that are high-level computer programmers at the top of their craft. People in this category can make an extremely good living in Russia ($1.5-2k USD equivalent per month...this is 4-5x the median salary in many Russian regions). This affords a very good quality of life in Russia, almost absurdly so.

However, making $2k per month is unlikely to be enough to convince a consular officer that the person can purchase health insurance for themselves and their family under this new rule.

In reality, this person can get a job making easily over $100k when they arrive in the US with a Green Card, obviating the entire question.

My point is that it makes more sense to ensure that Green Card holders cannot make use of public benefits than it does to require something like this a-priori.

I don't think that most Green Card holders will fall into this category. I'm not sure you appreciate the difficulty and level of effort required to obtain a Green Card approval, and therefore, an I-visa number. It is close to unobtainable for a very large percentage of the world's population.

There is a huge difference between illegals (both uninspected and visa overstays) and actual "immigrants" (Green Card holders). Sure, there will be a few that win the diversity lottery (still requires a minimum of a HS education and clean personal history) or are sponsored by a family member, but this is going to be a small minority, and in the case of family sponsorship, the sponsor must sign an affidavit of support, taking the financial responsibility for the immigrant upon themselves.

I think the right way to do this is to strictly enforce the rules regarding use of public benefits while on a Green Card, and go after the sponsors of those that decide to break the rules.

To be clear, I agree with you 100%: the American people should not be required to pay for, or even slightly subsidize the health care costs of any immigrant. It still doesn’t make sense to require health insurance before arrival. This is a nearly insurmountable hurdle many of even the most desirable of immigrants.

10/31/19 Danielle J. Hunsaker, of Oregon, to be United States Circuit Judge for the Ninth Circuit cloture filed. She should be confirmed next week.

Van Dyke is not on the Senate floor yet, he is still in the hearing process. The Left is giving him a very difficult time. Bumatay is still in the hearing process. Those are the 3 pending 9th Circuit nominees.

Previously confirmed 9th Circuit Judges.
Bress was confirmed in July. Collins, Lee were confirmed in May. Bade was confirmed in March, Miller in February. Nelson Oct 2018; Bennett July 2018.
Total 7 Confirmed on Trump’s watch with an 8th for next week and two more in hearings (both replacing Bush nominees).

Sixteen Clinton & Obama Judges vs thirteen Bush & Trump following the confirmation of Hunsaker. There remains a Bush appointee who is 78, two Clinton appointees who are 75, one Clinton nominee 74, and two Clinton/Obama nominees who are 73 in 2020.

I understand & know what it takes to obtain a green card. I also know that the rules are waved/ignored when it is politically expedient.

This change is part of reforming the system so that it is more difficult to ignore; meaning laws, rules, codes to make a ‘DACA’ maneuver more difficult and more outrageous to execute.

All the more reason to despise Paul Ryan. He and all snakes like him want to protect their gravy train due to providing access to the power of the Federal Government more than anything.

President Trump, on the other hand, wants the lives al ALL Americans to improve.
