Sen. Joe Manchin (D., W.Va.) rejected presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders's claim that he could pressure the West Virginia senator and other moderate Democrats to vote in favor of Medicare for All.
"Bernie is damn wrong on that one," Manchin said Wednesday when asked by NBC News about Sanders saying his health care plan would have support from moderate Democratic senators.
Sanders said in a CNBC interview that moderate senators, including Manchin and Sen. Jon Tester (D., Mont.), would rally behind his agenda and deliver the votes to implement a government-run healthcare system.
"Damn right they will," Sanders said when asked if he'd have their support.

Q: Sen Sanders says Damn right you would vote in favor of Medicare-for-All if he was President...
MANCHIN: Bernie is damn wrong on that one...
Sanders has made Medicare for All and expanding government programs and benefits the focus of his presidential campaign. According to his own estimates, Medicare for All would cost $40 trillion over 10 years. The Vermont senator said if he were elected president, he would pressure lawmakers to support his agenda by rallying working people at the state level.
"Look, what happens right now is your average politician sits around and he or she thinks, Let's see, if I do this I'm going to have the big money interest putting 30 second ads against me. So I better not do it,'" Sanders said. "But now they're going to have to think, If I don't support an agenda for working people, I'm going to have President Sanders come into my state and rally working class people.'"
Manchin has previously criticized socialized medicine, questioning how supporters, such as Sanders and fellow 2020 contender Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) plan to pay for providing healthcare for more than 330 million people.
"We cant even pay for Medicare for some and to go Medicare for Allwe cant take care of those who are depending on it right now," Manchin said in June.
MANCHIN: Bernie is damn wrong on that one...
Did Obama care go by the wayside?
Obamacare was just Step 1. He said it himself.
Pick a side Joe.
I don't care if it's the Uniparty! [And, it is!] Words are cheap!
Depends on if Manchin was just reelected or not.
He’s way more “conservative” on the campaign trail....
I wish Mitch would have a little chat with Joe, and get him to switch parties.
Manchin is a PHONY of the worst kind.
He is measured, he is not an hysteric, he seems reasonable, but:
HE IS A STINKING, DECEITFUL, TYPICAL...DEMOCRAT!
Nothing more, nothing less.
We all pay taxes into Medicare. After retirement, we continue to pay premiums for Medicare out the SS we also paid into.
Meanwhile, Medicare coverage becomes less and less.
Now, the brilliant progs want to put everyone on Medicare, including those who have never worked, will never work and have no concept of paying for anything. So what will it cost then? What will it cover?
I’d trade him any day for Romney.
After retirement, we continue to pay premiums for Medicare out the SS we also paid into.
Porn stars call that being spit roasted.
Do these senators ever talk to each other? All Bernie had to do was ask Manchin if hed vote for it. If he said no then shut up to the press. If he said yes then speak to the press freely.
Joe voted for Obamacare without even raising a fuss. Without his vote, we’d still have our doctors and insurance. So getting our hopes up over him becoming a ‘moderate’ in any way. When the Dems need his vote, they’ve ALWAYS gotten his vote.
You would think the voters in West Virginia would get tired of this guy always making them look stupid. But it seems he keeps proving that they are.
a person who says “damn wrong” never learned to cuss properly
Manchin already stuck his neck out to pass Obamacare, so if he voted for that mess, I am sure under the right circumstances he’d vote for Bernie’s plan.... However, the circumstances in WV are NOT RIGHT for him too.. he knows if he does he’s done... But that doesn’t mean situations can’t change.
Manchin all in all has done very good for his state, he could and should have been taken out in 16, but the GOP ran a joke of candidate.
Manchin is lying. As a Democrat he is capable of ANYTHING!
It would be nice to have an extra "R" senator on our side, but from Manchin's standpoint, he's actually in a position of power where he is currently. On close votes, BOTH sides will be going to him, looking to bargain.
Union mentality. They want their liberty but want the government to protect their income at the same time.
