I'm not condoning their behavior, but it might be because Armenian nationalism is historically a left wing movement traditionally supported by liberals.

Omar is Muslim. The Turks are Muslim. The Armenian victims were Christian.
There is no way Omar would vote agains her fellow Muslims. So she just voted ‘present’ on the bill condemning Armenian genocide. I’ll bet that after the vote she went home and cried - because she really wanted to vote ‘no’.
