I am not in love with Amazon.
But I too am puzzled by the choice, on (1) technical and (2) experience grounds. Frankly I would have put IBM or Amazon above Microsoft on both of those grounds.
Is this an “anti” Amazon decision, on political grounds???

Amazon expanded a huge operation in D.C. to stay close to the power and influence of the government. This is a big loss for AWS.
It would be foolish to allow Amazon to set-up the government cloud database.
The only “cloud” that DoD data should be in is a private one completely separate from the public internet.
I wouldn’t trust Google with garbage, let alone with data.
It was a wise move for DOD Amazon can’t be trusted they will sell anything to the highest bidder.

personally, i can’t think of many things more dangerous than ‘moving our defense operations to the cloud’
that ten billion dollars of our tax money could be used to terminate all the unconstitutional ‘gun control’ and reassign its staff to useful work like guarding our borders
