Think of this as colonialism in miniature.
At first the native will be happy to welcome them but over time, the local people will see them as obviously privileged because they certainly can't live as the natives do. They will need all the accommodations of the white western upper-class while the natives will continue to live basic and simple lives.
Life for the locals won't get better in any way but the royals will be seen as flaunting their white-colonial-privilege.
There will be a stark contrast between the couple and the natives. Anger and resentment will grow as the locals come to believe 'the royals think they're better than us'.
This will end badly with charges of exploitation and ignoring the 'plight of the poor', etc.
