Syria critic Lindsey Graham reverses stance, says Trump's policy could succeed

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, who has been one of the most vocal critics of President Donald Trump’s decision to move U.S. troops out of northeastern Syria, said on Sunday he now believed “historic solutions” were possible.

In an interview with Fox News Channel, Graham said a conversation he had with Trump over the weekend had fueled his optimism that a solution could be reached where the security of Turkey and the Kurds was guaranteed and fighters from Islamic State contained.

“I am increasingly optimistic that we can have some historic solutions in Syria that have eluded us for years if we play our cards right,” Graham said.

Graham said Trump was prepared to use U.S. air power over a demilitarized zone occupied by international forces, adding that the use of air power could help ensure Islamic State fighters who had been held in the area did not “break out.”

Senator Jim Inhofe, a Republican who chairs the Senate Armed Services Committee, said on Saturday that Trump understood the need for the United States to maintain air power in the region.

Is he taking his medication today?

He must flip an average of twenty-five times a month.

They mostly don’t have to, people keep re-electing them no matter what they do... usually.

Another case of the Swamp vs. President Trump.

Trump does something un-Swamp like, and all the Swamp creatures from all sides of the aisle scream that he wrong, he’s a madman, he must be removed from office, 25th Amendment, impeach...

Then his actions work out far better than expected, and they’re all surprised.

“Rinse. Lather. Repeat” It would be funny if it weren’t so sad.

This is encouraging news being that Graham was so outspoken against this.

Like most D.C. politicians, Lindsey Graham is like a fart in the wind when it comes to actually having any focus or direction.

Quite a lot of nominal Republicans are having to do a little tap-dance around their opposition to a policy that at the very least has resulted in a cease-fire and no American troops dying. Remember their names.

No.

They only react positively or negatively based on how it impacts their corrupt nut.

Leadership. I think you're talking about leadership.

Many of our recent presidents were more often caretakers than leaders.

I think GWB (who wasn't that much of a leader, IMHO) called it "the vision thing."

If Linda (and others) would simply follow Rush’s advice and NOT immediately jump to a microphone every time the media says squirrel!, they wouldn’t have to deal with looking like idiots nearly as often.

Linda got Kavenaugh through...all always appreciate him for that!

I noted how sheepish Linda seemed. Perhaps he’s learned to trust the president a little more - or at least keep his yap closed until he knows what’s going on.

My head is spinning trying to keep track of Lindsey’s latest laments and epiphanies.

Somebody must have made it clear to Graham: “If you keep doing ‘X’, we’ll start doing ‘Y’. Is this really what you want? Think about it, Lindsey.”
The question is what are the X & Y factors?
