More people were working last month in Fresno County, and fewer people were out of work, than at any time in at least 30 years a combination that drove the unemployment rate in September to its lowest point in decades. Estimates released Friday by the state Employment Development Department indicated Fresno Countys unemployment rate was 5.3%. Steven Gutierrez, an EDD labor market consultant in Fresno, said that is the lowest its been since current tracking methods began in 1990. The previous low-water mark was a year ago, when the countys unemployment rate was estimated at 5.9%. August and September are historically the months reflecting the lowest rates each year because of seasonal swings in agricultural employment and because schools have teachers and staff returning to work after the summer, Gutierrez said.
The state estimated the number of people with jobs in the county at 431,700, which is the highest employment weve had not just in any September, but in any month going back to 1990, Gutierrez said. We also had the lowest number of people unemployed, at 24,300. Fresno Countys current population is estimated by the state Department of Finance at 1,018,241.
The statewide unemployment rate in California dipped to 3.5%, the lowest since 1990, and down from 3.9% a year earlier. The federal Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the national jobless rate was 3.5%, down from 3.7% in September 2018...

“But what kind of jobs?”
Not working at newspapers hopefully.
There is something terribly unsatisfying about knowing that not all residents of the area are working out in the rice fields as they should be, contributing to the public good.
in before the meth lab jokes
Better there than in the lettuce fields urinating on the lettuce...
The Welfare State just keeps on expanding. Bankruptcy or bailout cant be far behind.
They mention manufacturing and construction. Government jobs grew too, but at a lower rate. That’s probably the bad part for the Fresno Democrat.
Not everyone can land those cushy no-show gigs that pay $50K per month. It ain’t fair!

The urine is relatively sterile.
It’s the diarrhea you have to worry about.
That’s the socialist/communist way to fertilize crops. We’re close but not quite there. Give it a little more time under democrat one-party rule and we’ll probably get there.

By the way, I stumbled upon a Bill Gates video where he was developing a fully self-contained green power toilet that converts human waste to drinking water and fertilizer. They actually got it working, but it costs $6,000 per unit. No problem. I think the green new deal people can find a way to make up the difference in quantity.
"Human waste"? Does that mean (since he qualifies) he designed the toilet big enough so that he could fit in and be converted?
What’s the political climate in Fresno? Republican or democrat? I know away from the coast CA is pretty normal.

The Central Valley is fairly conservative.
Sorry for y’all there.
Apparently they are the kind of jobs people are willing to take.
