People are going online for abortion pills, especially in states with more restrictions

Women living in states with more restrictive policies on abortion are turning to online sources for medications that can be used to induce the procedure, a study published Thursday found.

The study in the American Journal of Public Health examined data from a European online service called Women on Web. The service mails women early in their pregnancy two drugs — mifepristone and misoprostol — after a doctor reviews an online form filled out by the women.

The women can then take the pills at home, without having to go to a clinic or other abortion provider.

Over a period of 10 months — October 2017 to August 2018 — 6,022 people in the U.S. sought out Women on Web for access to the abortion pills, the study found. Of those, 76 percent were living in states with added restrictions on abortion, such as mandatory counseling and ultrasounds.

The highest demand was in Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Tennessee and Texas, though requests came in from every state in the country — even those with the fewest restrictions, like New Hampshire. The only stipulation in that state is aimed at minors, who must notify a parent before having an abortion.

Reasons why women turned to an online source for abortion pills varied, but cost was a big factor.

The paid killers and the baby-parts sellers won’t like this.

We’ve never been able to successfully clamp down on any other illicit drug, so sadly this will probably continue as well.

I’m surprised you can order powerful drugs such as these over the internet.

Any other issues of abortion aside for now, I think we should have a standard, that any female seeking abortion should be seen by an actual doctor, in real time, not over the internet. And that this actual real life human doctor, will issue a prescription, if warranted by his/her medical judgement.

It seems to me that common sense has gone out the window.

Have you ever seen those TV ads for Roman?

They’ll prescribe Viagra to you based on an online web chat with a doctor.

I would never put anything into my body that was prescribed that way.

Those women should watch the movie “Unplanned” before taking it.

This pill rips apart women’s bodies and the full long term side effects are not known because they shoved it through. The lack of knowledge is so widespread, that most think the pill prevents STDs and if you take a lot of them at once before AND after there is a less chance of becoming pregnant (this is not sarcasm).

Yes good point. The same should apply to males seeking Viagra type drugs. People should see an actual doctor for an actual examination. Viagra type drugs are also.powerful, have side effects, and should not be given to some, depending on other health concerns.
