Why Is Speaker Pelosi Delaying a Full House Vote on the Impeachment Inquiry?
PJ Media ^ | 10/16/2019 | Rick Moran

Despite all the headlines and breathless commentary on impeachment from the media, House Democrats have yet to hold a vote that would formally -- constitutionally -- authorize an impeachment inquiry.

What is Speaker Nancy Pelosi worried about?

Last week, she seem poised to bring the issue of impeachment to the floor of the House for a vote. But yesterday, Pelosi decided to once again delay a vote,

The Hill:

After back-to-back meetings with party leaders and then the full caucus, Pelosi announced that no such vote would take place. Democratic aides emphasized, however, that the process remains fluid and that Pelosi may reverse course and stage such a vote at any point in the future.

"There's no requirement that we have a vote, and so at this time we will not be having a vote," Pelosi told reporters during a last-minute press briefing in the Capitol.

Pelosi's major headache is that there are two parties represented in the House and one of them is going to do its best to draw the process out and throw a monkey wrench into Democratic plans. Democrats are worried because Republicans will almost certainly demand documents and testimony relating to Joe Biden's own role in the Ukraine. For these reasons, Pelosi has hesitated to formalize the impeachment process, allowing Democrats the luxury of freezing the GOP out of the various investigations.

The decision arrives as Trump and his Republican allies are amping up the pressure on Pelosi to hold a formal vote to begin the investigation — a move they believe would grant the GOP more power and influence in the process, including the ability to call and subpoena

They just can’t let Trump get subpoena power on this matter...it will all come crashing down on them. It’s not just Biden that abused his position. Most of them do.

Why Is Speaker Pelosi Delaying a Full House Vote on the Impeachment Inquiry?

Because she can.

Because she never intended to have one. It’s all about impeachment hanging over Trump’s head. They have nothing else.

Well, I would argue “because she must”

She wants this show to go on until November 2020.

they can create 13 months of fear, uncertainty, doubt, and fatigue among voters while never having to actually go on recorded w/ a position

She realizes delaying the vote is the same as saying “there MUST/SHOULD be a vote”. In other words, it’s not optional.

If they try to send it to the Senate, Justice Roberts should just excoriate Nancy for no due process, etc. and tell them to start over again.

I would argument she can’t expose her ‘moderate’ candidates to an actual vote and still retain the House in 2020. The numbers aren’t there yet. The democrats were hoping a full court press by the media would have moved the needle enough in their direction to call for a vote. That hasn’t happened yet.

Because then it would go to judiciary plus repubs would be able to subpoena and ask questions

Actually House rules do require a vote.

House rules require a resolution for an independent investigation, impeachment or otherwise (impeachment itself is never mentioned in the House Rules so it falls to the regular rules on investigations). That resolution has to first pass out of the Committee on Rules. Then there is A FULL HOUSE VOTE on acceptance of the resolution. No investigation can begin until this vote is taken. This is all required under the House Rules. Once approved, the investigation goes to the Judiciary Committee, not Intelligence. So even the assignment to Schiff violates House Rules. Most importantly, the House Rules do not convey upon the Speaker the authority to unilaterally start anything. She simply does not have the right under House Rules to do decree an “impeachment inquiry” by executive fiat.

Constitutionally, the House can follow any rules or method it wants to impeach the president.

This star chamber process is unseemly and ridiculous. It’s an embarrassment to House and to the nation. If the press were not solidly partisan Democrats they could never get away with it.

Why ask the question? From the beginning she didn’t have the votes. If it is voted down, the narrative ends, behind closed doors, it continues to survive like a fungus in the dark.

Because they would vote for it and lose their seats next election.

Including my CIA reprobate representative.

Rules, rules? We don’t need no stinkin’ rules. The House can amend their rules any time they like. It does appear unseemly, but as long as the lamestream runs interference they can get away with it.

i believe they are hinging it on his tax returns being somehow something somewhere to claim something about. they have zip now and were expecting to use the returns to concoct something to hang impeachment on.

Why wouldn’t she?

Calling a vote would create an fair and balanced process, which is the last thing the Democrats want.

They know this probably won’t result in the removal of Trump from office, they’re just throwing shit at him hoping enough sticks to diminish his chance of re-election. Just like monkeys at the zoo who know nothing bad will happen to them if they manage to score a bulls-eye.

Of course Pelosi is also the one with the finger on the pulse of at-risk democrat House districts and knows what the real vote numbers would be. She doesn’t have the votes, and a failed impeachment vote would make it difficult to continue with this fake extra-constitutional approach.
