Nope... hanging it out there is much better. It makes companies scramble to move the supply chain. I have said before that Trump’s goal is to destroy the Chinese economic engine without taking casualties on our side. 35% is likely not going to be fully absorbed by China so there would be pain here. The Sword of Damocles is a better option. A better motivator without our side taking any hits.
See 21.
In any case, whoever DID post that here on FR is exactly right, IMO. Xi has to "save face" somehow since China's economic growth has shrunk to one of its lowest rates in a very, very long time and factories are announcing they're relocating elsewhere, either back here to the US or to South Korea, Vietnam and Philippines.
China's days of being the cheap labor capital would be coming to and end sooner or later anyway. They're just coming to an end sooner thanks to PDJT shining the light on how China deals with their trading partners and capital follows the cheaper labor pools anyway.
One of the main reasons companies are relocating back here is because of cheap and stable sources of energy, one of the bigger drivers in the cost of making products. Those savings offset the higher labor costs and reduced transportation costs to US Markets are very dramatically reduced as well.
The economics of making things in China don't really work in China's favor anymore for a variety of factors including energy, transportation, rising labor costs in China, social influences and many more.
President Trump surely knows all this plus a whole lot more and that's what's allowing him to put the screws to China to which I say it's about damn' time an American President worked for us!
I love PDJT - he fights.
The Chinese screwing around again. Waiting for Trump to loose.
Look at the way that China spit in the face of that
team owner, and how they violate the Hong Kong agreements.
Save face has to go both ways, if you treat me like crap don’t expect us all to fold like cheap cameras.
I can’t say I disagree at all with EvilCapitalist’s post. Sound logic.
Also sound logic. China's human rights abuses are very well known and I agree with you: how they treated the NBA in this case is terrible.
Granted, I think the NBA bending over backwards and kissing China's ass is even worse!
Then there's Apple, Microsoft, Google, Nike and so many others doing the same thing and it's frankly disgusting. Never in my life did I ever think I'd see American companies bend over backwards while saying "I'm sorry" to kiss the Communist Chinese Governments ass. Boy was I wrong!
Saving face ill get you in more trouble. Dropped on the Japanese and then see how important it was.
And I think that China feels Trump will kiss ass too, and I
don’t see him doing so in this lifetime.
Give the corporate weasels time to get out of dodge. This is as much if not more a war on the globalist corps as it is on China. I mean just look at the NBA. Corp weasels embracing globalism because it kicks up their bottom line a bit at the cost of any shred of being anything but huge hypocrites. Change their calculus as to what is in their bottom line interests. You are not going to change that they whore themselves out. Just make China a non-viable john. The problem with extremely harsh and rapid moves is it gives them no time to react and unfortunately our retirements are linked to these weasels. Slow and steady wins the race in this case.
Or the next. :-)
Love my President. He Fights.
If you liked that, see 30 ;-)
I did, and it’s hard to refute your logic. Not even gonna try. :-)
ASSASSINATE THE MEDIAVOMITS is a psyop against us.
Just saw a supposition Romney guys are behind it. Makes sense. Now we need to dig and see if it leads anywhere.
You are exactly right. They only respect one thing: strength.
Agree, but our media/analysts only look for something to blame Trump for.
I think Trump knows that they are weasels, and his “ paper it” and doing it in the oval office is a signal to them , you don’t sign this its “ damn the torpedos”
He’s no fool when it comes to media presence..... and setting up the stage to call them out as manipulators....
Also , he did something for the farmers, in spite of all the media hype about how he has abanonded them....
This seems like no news. Everything I heard was they had a broad strokes agreement only (which is still good). They acknowledged it was a lot of work to get to paper and it could go off the tracks, but they both agreed they felt optimistic. Trump said he hoped but was not sure, they might have something in writing by the time they get together in Chile over a month from now, but thought it might go longer. You are right, there was never a signed agreement and not sure why anyone who watched that news conference would think there was.
We don’t need a deal with China.
And we should not trade with them at all. It just strengthens them.
