I’d guess control issues or more likely an engine problem. With single engine aircraft, when you lose power low and slow (relatively speaking) you don’t have a lot of options. His best may have been point it at an empty space and get out.

I’ve worked on these aircraft, it’s all mechanical linkage. There isn’t much to go wrong overall. It’ll be interesting to see if anyone pencil whipped an inspection.

one of my best friends is a stunt pilot.

in a great lakes bi plane he completed the inverted flat spin.

best day ever.

have to admit though, the inverted loop and the negative G’s was distressing.

Well you cant have an airshow without a pilot actually in the place, so headline checks out.

This occurred a few years ago during an airshow at Mountain Home, Idaho.

Long story short, his altimeter was set incorrectly.

As an internet expert, I’ve done a detailed examination of that picture and concluded that something either blew up or burned. And in blowing up or burning caused a smoke cloud.

And the smoke cloud either decided to grow an arm or is preparing to apply for a job in the porno industry.

He bailed with about 2 tenths of second left. He miscalculated airport altitude and was off about 900 feet in altitude before roll and pitch.

A few years ago, two Canadian Air Force F-16’s were scheduled to land at Tyndall AFB. For some reason they confused the abandoned city airport for Tyndall.

They were down to around 6 feet altitude when the Tyndall control tower got them to abort the landing.
