"The central conservative truth is that it is culture, not politics, that determines the success of a society. The central liberal truth is that politics can change culture and save it from itself." I guess I agree with the second part of that statement, but probably not the way Moynihan meant it. I think he was talking about how liberalism can save society from it more base instincts. The reality, in my opinion, is that politics is needed to save society from its liberal instincts.
