“because Im pretty sure an illegal immigrant cant buy insurance coverage in the U.S.”
Yes they can...but not on an exchange.
When we emigrated to Spain we had to bring proof of medical insurance in order to start the residency process. If you are just visiting they don’t ask. The new Trump policy is for people wanting to stay.
People keep telling me it is “too late” to close the border and deport illegals.
II IS NOT TOO LATE!
To save America, WE MUST CLOSE THE BORDER AND DEPORT ALL ILLEGAL ALIENS!
You got the wrong guy.
Congress has chosen not to repeal the mandate. As the saying goes, the best way to make a bad law go away is to strictly enforce it - against *everyone*.
This is double edged - on the one hand, the liberals can’t object because they require it of everyone else. On the other hand, it makes the law even more unpopular and brings more pressure to bear against the mandate.
We need some (and I don’t mean crappy low wage H1B wage slave) immigrants for our tech and modern manufacturing industry due to the fact that the leftists wrecked our STEM programs. It will take time to fix that and get new actually competent STEM grads into the labor force. In the meantime, if we were to stop immigration of actually skilled individuals, we’d soon have our industry stagnate and die. Bit of a problem.
This forum is even more against illegals obtaining “free” health care...how about, if they want in they either have to show the ability to pay for health insurance or to pay directly out of pocket?
>>>This forum is even more against illegals obtaining free health care.
But this law doesn’t apply to the illegals. It applies to those immigrants seeking a visa.
Were against forcing Americans to get or to pay for health insurance.
It doesnt follow foreigners should get a free ride on our health care system.
A free ride Americans have to pay for out of our pocket.
I get what you’re saying - it seems that it would also apply to any illegals who opt to try to go the right route...the upside is that the President is whittling away at the costs of immigrants settling here which is a good thing even if it doesn’t do what we want at the pace we want it - it’s amazing how much progress he’s made considering he has a host of folks gunning for him...
Maybe we’ll someday see a movie called “The Magnificent One” as a biopic.
Force your political opponent to live-up to his own standards. When he refuses, cite him for the cardinal political sin — hypocricy.
You’d be correct since the article mentions ‘visas’. However, a big problem is foreign students who overstay their student-visas. And perhaps there’s a problem with workers with H1B’s as well.
It also occurs to me that this administration’s biggest problem is some federal judge just ignoring the law and ordering the release of an illegal. Perhaps “failure to show proof of insurance” is a way to re-arrest and deport. Force the judge to make a ruling against that... and you might just get a fast-tracked equal-protection suit that would, among other things, invalidate Obamacare.
In that case, we should VERY CAREFULLY examine the issue - I am NOT convinced that the argument is legitimate.
Witness recent reports of Americans being fired and foreign workers hired to replace them AT LOWER WAGES!
And, you have swerved into one of my pet peeves - ABORTION!
Since Roe v Wade in 1973, there have been in excess of 60 MILLION abortions in the USA!
How many of them would be filling those jobs today had there not been legalized abortion?
We need to stop abortion now!
Killing babies in the womb is the worst kind of assault on Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness!
I was just expanding on your “Yup.”
Not as long as hospitals are required to treat anybody. That’s why so many foreigners mover directly from the airport to the hospital; I hear about it all the time from nurses I know who work at Mass General and Beth Israel hospitals in Boston.
