Pompeo balks at House Dems' demands

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Tuesday indicated that five current and former State Department officials would not show up for depositions scheduled by House Democrats in connection with their impeachment inquiry.

“I’m concerned with aspects of your request that can be understood only as an attempt to intimidate, bully, & treat improperly the distinguished professionals of the Department of State, including several career Foreign Service Officers,” Pompeo wrote in a letter to Foreign Affairs Chairman Eliot Engel (D-N.Y.) on Tuesday.

“Let me be clear: I will not tolerate such tactics, and I will use all means at my disposal to prevent and expose any attempts to intimidate the dedicated professionals whom I am proud to lead and serve alongside at the Department of State,” Pompeo wrote.

“This amounts to an attempt to circumvent the Executive Branch’s unquestionably legitimate constitutional interest in protecting potentially privileged information related to the conduct of diplomatic relations,” Pompeo wrote.

“Therefore, the five officials subject to your letter may not attend any interview or deposition without counsel from the Executive Branch present to ensure that the Executive Branch’s constitutional authority to control the disclosure of confidential information, including deliberative matters and diplomatic communications, is not impaired,” he continued.

Cite the law, Rudy! How long was the form in effect that promoted first-hand knowledge of the reported acts before it was changed at the time of the ‘whistleblower’ submission? What does the text of the law in question provide [5 U.S.C. § 2302(a)(2)(C).]? Sect (C) seems to exempt CIA agents from the whistleblower law. This appears to be yet another wet-dream of the Socialist Democrats bent on destroying America to usher in the globalist fascists.

I doubt clear talk will be understood by those who can’t tell a woman from a man. This country needs repentance. And we best not take the mercy of God for granted. He owes us nothing!

I think it’s time for me to watch the ending scenes in “The Majestic” again.

Democrats snookered again. They’ll have to sue.

Good luck with it. Might as well go fly a kite.

I wonder if the Democrats included protracted litigation in their impeachment timeline.

Dems are looking for an argument so they can push “obstruction”....since much of what they will ask for will be privileged. They still don’t get that part of the separation of powers.

I was just thinking the same thing. Nancy expressed a timeline already.

What amused me was that she announced the "real inquiry" BEFORE the phone call and complaint were released. Apparently, media reports were good enough.

I think it would be a hoot for Rudy to testify and on camera. He could really take those clowns to the woodshed.
