Fairfax Co. student says classmates cut her dreadlocks in racist attack

A black sixth grader at a Fairfax County, Virginia, private school said she was attacked by white classmates who then cut her hair while taunting her with racist insults this week.

Amari Allen is a student at Immanuel Christian School in Springfield, and she said the incident happened during recess Monday. Allen alleges that three white classmates attacked her on the playground and pinned her down against a slide.

“They put my hands behind my back, put a hand over my mouth and they tried to cut my hair,” said Allen. She said the students were calling her hair “nappy” and “ugly” while that was happening.

I searched a few ways and didn't see this posted.

I think it's odd that at a Christian school something like this could happen and also...did she not know the names of her alleged attackers? The school has only 372 students enrolled in K-8th grade. She had to have recognozed at least one of them.

By 6th grade, every white kid knows that being called a racist means the end of any future you might think you have, much less being accused of something like this.

Well, therein lies the rub. The lede and the story state that her dreads were cut. Yet in the video, she clearly says "they tried to cut my hair. And the pics don't show that her hair was cut.

If her hair was in fact cut, that should have been immediately obvious to her teachers and everyone else. She should have reported it to her teacher as soon as recess was over.
I call this a fake hate crime.
