GOP signals unease with Barr's gun plan
The Hill ^ | 18 Sep 19 | By Alexander Bolton and Jordain Carney

Senate Republicans are treading cautiously on a background checks plan floated by Attorney General William Barr that has been decried as a “non-starter” by the National Rifle Association (NRA).

Barr floated the proposal to GOP offices on Wednesday as the Senate inches toward doing something on gun control amid growing public pressure created by a seemingly endless string of mass shootings.

But Barr was careful to tell Republicans that his memo on background checks, titled “Idea for New Unlicensed-Commercial-Sale Background Checks,” did not have the backing of President Trump

“I’m up here just kicking around some ideas, getting perspectives so I can be in a better position to advise the president,” Barr told reporters. “But the president has made no decision yet.”

GOP lawmakers, for their part, were decidedly noncommittal, with several saying they still wanted to hear what Trump would back.

“It’s one thing to have a few ideas on paper,” said Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), who met with Barr and White House legislative affairs director Eric Ueland on Tuesday.

“But in terms of actually being a concrete proposal where you can say, ‘How do you feel about this?’ I need to see a lot,” Hawley told reporters, summarizing his meeting with Barr.

“My question was, where’s the president on this? Is this something — I asked that question directly — is this something the president supports?”

Hawley said Ueland couldn’t say whether Trump backs the Department of Justice (DOJ) proposal.

“That’s an important piece, because if the president doesn’t support it, there’s no point. It’s not going to become law,” he added.

The NRA moved quickly to dismiss the proposal, which would expand background checks along the lines of a 2013 amendment to a gun violence bill that was sponsored by Sens. Joe Manchin and Pat Toomey...

Trust Barr!

Errrr… how about no.

Well at least some in the White House see what Barr is doing.

And lookie here:

Barr-authored gun control draft lands in Congress

During Barr's confirmation hearing, many 2nd Amendment supporters raised the alarm over Barr and his hatred of guns in the hands of citizens.

Attorney General Nominee William Barr Voices Support for Gun Confiscation

During his confirmation hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee, attorney general nominee William Barr voiced support for Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s (D-California) beloved red flag gun confiscation laws. Barr said of Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs), otherwise known as red flag gun confiscation laws, which give police the authority to raid your home and seize your guns: "...We need to push along the ERPOs (Extreme Risk Protection Orders), so we have these red flag laws to supplement the use of the background check to find out if someone has some mental disturbance. This is the single most important thing I think we can do in the gun control area to stop these massacres from happening in the first place." Feinstein, who has introduced gun control legislation numerous times since she was elected in 1992 and recently re-introduced a so-called “assault weapons” ban, heartily approved. “Thank you, I’d like to work with you in that regard,” Feinstein said. "Barr's unabashed support for red flag gun confiscation laws alone should send a shiver down the spine of every gun owner in America," Dudley Brown, president of the National Association for Gun Rights

It's time to stop being in denial about Bagpipe Barr.

DOJ declines to prosecute Comey despite finding that he leaked info

He is not going after the Swamp, the coup plotters, and the criminals in the Dept of Injustice and the Federal Bureau of Injustice. He IS going after our guns.

He was gonna be Trump’s Luca Brasi!!!!

MY STUPID WORDS last month.

WRONG!

I should have KNOWN that the only person Trump could count on to be that loyal to Trump and do the brutal work was Rudy, which he AGAIN proved on CNN last night.

I know. He’s not a conservative.

But give the man some credit.

Because he loves this country.

Because he’s got courage.

Because he is one of the VERY FEW people who have been loyal to Trump from day ONE and who still fight bare knuckled for him.

Who else is going to call out CNN for the traitors that they are?

Nobody. That’s who.

Absolutely. Rudy took down the heads of the 5 Families.

Barr wants to take down the Constitution.

Moreover, read this incredible quote:

“I’m up here just kicking around some ideas, getting perspectives so I can be in a better position to advise the president,” Barr told reporters

In other words, Barr was trying to LOBBY the U.S. Congress. The White House had to issue a press declaration distancing himself for what it’s on Attorney General is doing!!!!!

“Trust Barr!!” my azz.

Swampy Barr refuses to remove the masks from Antifa but is trying to add new gun restrictions on the law abiding. Here’s an idea; don’t comply with anything he says. Resistance works, witness what SOBs like him are doing to the Trump administration.

Chances of it getting anywhere are between zero and slim.

We don’t need new gun control laws; we need better enforcement of existing laws already on the books.

The real aim isn’t to make us safer but to take away our rights. This proposal is the camel’s nose under the tent.

Just say “no.”

More crap from the Trump Administration. Let's work on real control. Everyone should have a gun and know how to shoot accurately. National reciprocity or better yet national Constitutional carry. Armed teachers in all schools. Liability for any establishment barring carry. Real punishment for violent crime. More guns means less crime.

The way to stop a bad guy with an AR is with a good guy with an AR. Why do think the cops have them. Buy one or two today with the Beto specials.

The 2A is your personal self defense amendment, self defense against tyranny and criminals. The racist, regressive, fascists of the Democrat and Republican parties want to remove your right to self defense. They want you dead. It’s time to go on the offensive.

Trump is playing games and isn't man enough to do what’s right. Lazamataz is right to be concerned. This Administration is a bust on gun rights. When Canada Cruz starts to look like the bull with the biggest huevos in the field, you have a problem.

I learned this about six weeks ago and it has been festering under my skin.

I originally accepted the opinions of people I respect without researching Barr myself'

But nobody is asking about Barr’s legal crusade for blanket immunity for federal agents who killed American citizens.

I heard a great seminar once on “Communications”. The guy had done Sociology type research on “Why Institutions and Companies Fail”. He said he and his colleagues were shocked at what they found because it was not at all what they were “looking for.” He said in every instance failure precipitated because of a “cultural blind spot” that prevented those involved from even discussing problems much less doing something about them. So the problems just got worse and worse until everything collapsed and the injured were left wondering, “What happened?”

1350.

Barr received a routine questionnaire from the Judiciary Committee asking him to disclose his past work including pro bono activities “serving the disadvantaged.” The “disadvantaged” that Barr spent the most time helping was an FBI agent who slayed an Idaho mother holding her baby in 1992. Barr spent two weeks organizing former Attorneys General and others to support “an FBI sniper in defending against criminal charges in connection with the Ruby Ridge incident.” Barr also “assisted in framing legal arguments advanced… in the district court and the subsequent appeal to the Ninth Circuit,” he told the committee.

Is there ANYBODY that Trump can get in charge at the DOJ who will actually ENFORCE THE BILL OF RIGHTS??

The only way that is going to happen is if he stops hiring anybody who has ever been part of the D.C. circus and instead hires from the hinterlands. Maybe a Sheriff David Clarke type.
