She’s severely mentally ill. Her own mother stated in a book that she has OCD, autism, severe anxiety, and selective mutism. Greta herself has admitted to both severe anxiety and feeling better when she’s seeking to save the world and impose order to save it.
They picked her because she looks 10, speaks likes she’s 20 plus due to high intelligence and literally believes in their cause while desperately driven to spread it. And as an Aspberger’s girl with a stage mom, she won’t be distracted by boys or fail to perform for years. She’s their perfect standard bearer.
