Second border wall project starts in Yuma

Construction is underway to replace five miles of vehicle barriers with 30-foot bollards along the Colorado River west of Yuma in an area that has been used extensively by asylum-seeking migrants to cross the U.S.-Mexico border largely unimpeded.

This is the second ongoing border wall replacement project in the Yuma area. Already, crews have replaced more than 11 miles of aging landing mat fencing with the 30-foot bollards east of the border city of San Luis.

The replacement of this five-mile stretch along the Colorado River is the second project along the Arizona border that is being paid for using diverted military funds. Three weeks ago, construction began on a separate, military-funded project east of Lukeville.

Workers with BFBC LLC, an affiliate of Barnard Construction Company of Bozeman, Montana, broke ground late last week under a $141.7 million contract. The first panels of the new 30-foot bollards have already gone up, according to the U.S. Border Patrol in the Yuma Sector.

Another week, another segment of mighty 30 foot border wall system starts standing up bollards.

Yuma has been the third highest traffic corridor, after the Rio Grande Valley and San Diego. Unlike those areas, which are getting closed off using Congressional appropriations, most of the Yuma barrier is coming out of DoD funds.

Looks like they are going to wall off the whole Yuma Sector of the border, except perhaps a few miles SW of town, on the Cocopah Indian Reservation.

Not for nothing...but these are not only great looking walls, they appear to be doing the job....blocking the way at particular areas....squeezing the invaders to what I call as "catch zones".

Most of the original walls were worthless....and didn't keep anyone out.

What a difference....The President talked to everyone...border folks, contractors, design specialists.....to get the design right.

It's how the President works....and gets the job done. Too bad the Dems are so uncooperative.

The Dems complain about conditions at the border but encourage these "invaders" at every turn.

The 30ft wall is visible from some parts of I-8 near Imperial Dunes. It looks impressive. Hope it works.

The design is simple, quick, and effective. Many hundreds of miles could be completed in one year with enough funding.

I would enjoy watching it. Mind you, I’m a bit portly myself: I would just enjoy seeing someone NOT BEING ABLE to sneak into our country!

Notice how the “writer” of this piece made sure to ID the name and location of the Company contracted to build the Fencing?

I’m surprised he didn’t include their Phone Number and Email Address.

I guess he just wanted to be thorough and there is absolutely no bias in the story.

It is frustrating that President Trump can’t get money for his big beautiful wall.

Instead we are reduced to putting up temporary barriers which replace older temporary barriers.

Our children will be Forest to do this all over again.

Instead of a catch Zone, I think they should use that for a Repel Zone. Install your active denial systems in those areas that when people funnel through the week zones the encounter pain blazing skin until they turn around

I think so too. You would probably only need one tower on their land. The really big Reservation on the border (also in Arizona) is the Tohono O'odham Nation (TON).

They (TON) voted to get Integrated Fixed Tower (IFT) coverage of their border with Mexico (>50 miles), and it is already funded and on contract. They have a significant problem with cartels running drugs through their territory, and trying to corrupt their members.

The Cocopah Reservation may already be included in the big IFT rollout for Arizona - over 200 miles contracted. Even a couple of the new mobile surveillance units could provide strong oversight of a few miles - technology and freed up Officers will converge on the remaining gaps. These mobile units can pick out the heat signature of a kid under a bush from miles away:

Even more than the Tohono O'odham, the Cocopah may end up wishing for barrier later, if they don't get it now, because a lot more traffic will be funneled through a much smaller gap.

That is the bottom line. It is a complete package of “Wall System” - everything needed to really control the border.

Barrier that defeats or deters the overwhelming bulk of climbers, tunnelers, breachers and vehicle rammers. All weather high speed access road for response. Persistent surveillance from the command posts, assisted by AI software to alert operators. Alarm systems and multiple sensors to raise detection to near 100%

That is exactly the area that will be closed off by this segment (Just a few hundred yards South of the Morelos Dam).

The lady in the video reports that about 4,000 family units per month were coming through there at one point.

30 foot bollards with anti-climb plates and concertina will put an end to that. The ridiculous old vehicle barrier was along the river, where no vehicle could cross anyhow - absolutely useless.
