US bombs ISIS island in Iraq’s Tigris River

Coalition and Iraqi forces carried out airstrikes Tuesday against an island south of Mosul in the Tigris River believed to be a safe haven for the Islamic State group in Iraq.
Fireballs exploded across Qanus Island in Iraq’s Salahuddin province, as plumes of smoke billowed up into the sky, a video posted on Twitter showed. Black-clad Iraqi counter-terrorism troops are seen watching over the operation from the ground.

There is the distinct possibility that the purpose was just to blast off the vegetation so the Iraqi 2nd could find the ISIS troops; a terrain denial op. Video shows only part of the op.
The F15s carried 5 or more 2000lb GBU-31/B Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) GPS-guided bombs; the F-35s 2 more GBU-31/B each

Looks like a WW2 air strike on a Jap held island in the Pacific. It worked then. Should work now with more powerful bombs and rockets.

Glad to see ISIS tasking advantage of their 401kg of bombs retirement plans courtesy of the US and Iraqi Air Forces. But for a more personal touch it’s highly recommended that all ISIS members meet their individual retirement counselors, The US Marines and Army. So far they’ve never had any complaints from their clients.
