I wonder if we can hear from guys that actually did combat there multiple times, and not from middle age dudes in their homes that are just military hobbyists at this point that need the war porn, and really otherwise not know the names of the last 3 people that died there for a conflict started when many of them were kids?

“Who ever said that was all the invasion of Afghanistan was to achieve? No one.”

LOL! Are you serious?

We gave them an ultimatum to turn him over. Otherwise we didnt give two shakes about the Taliban. You think we went there to make Afghanistan safe for democracy?

The only mistake they made is that they didn’t. And they got pounded until Bin Laden was dead.

That is the moment we should have roll-out of there.

"The Taliban are not a regime to be toppled. They are the ones trying to topple the elected government of Afghanistan. At least get your metaphors right."

What does that have to do with Trumps foreign policy positions being generally non-interventionist and Bolton's being interventionist? They are basically at opposite ends of that spectrum. It still amazes me that Trump brought him on board considering what Trump publicly stated he wanted to do.

“What does that have to do with Trumps foreign policy positions being generally non-interventionist and Bolton’s being interventionist?”

We are already there, and we are supported by and supporting the elected government in Afghanistan. What does THAT have to do with anyone being an “interventionist” or “non-interventionist”. NOTHING.

Trying to reverse history and dismiss all our prior losses as worthless and not honorable is not being a “non-interventionist” anymore than is staying there with a small force an act of being an “interventionist”. Is that what we were in western Germany, an “interventionist”??

“I’ve got a feeling that Jared and Ivanka are behind all this “

I wouldn’t doubt that for a second. Trump mentioned “other members of the administration” in his tweet.

Unfortunately, I don’t have much confidence in what comes out of the intelligence services after the last 2.5 years

“The only mistake they made is that they didn’t.”

They didn’t because ideologically they couldn’t, and were they in the same position today they still couldn’t. They were removed from governing Afghanistan because we could never again trust them; they had already considered us their enemy; and they still do. They intend to make war in Afghanistan until people like you outnumber people like me and our government is forced to let them occupy Afghanistan again. You foolishly think that will give US peace. It won’t. They will again become a sanctuary state for jihadists; just as is true now in the areas of Afghanistan they can control. They are NOT jihadists BECAUSE we are there. That preceded our being there and any use of that idea now is an excuse for blaming us for their belligerence.

Ok....

Well then keep an eye on them using old fashioned espionage, because Afghanistan has no navy, no real army, no airforce, and is land-locked. The amount of jihad nutcases are no more concentrated there than they are in most [all] Islamic countries.

You dont need our military there for 19 years because of some “trust” issues.

Trump announced the talks with the Taliban dead, after he said the talks were near to a meeting with them in Washington D.C. and that was followed by a Taliban attack in Kabul that killed Americans.

To Trump that attack showed (finally) that the Taliban word could not be trusted and HE, Trump, ended the State Department’s negotiations with the Taliban.

I don't think Trump was ever going to bring the Taliban to Camp David.

I think he was trolling them to see what they would do.

Unfortunately people died, but that could have happened even if Trump wasn't trying to negotiate with them.

With aircraft in use for many generations now, no nation is truly “land locked” anymore. Neither are their “guests”.

I’m not sure how we get to stop other countries from having “long term success”? Engaging other countries is a good idea. Communism did not die because because of anything we did, rather it is such a disastrous economic system that it was and is and will always be unsustainable without outside assistance. We assisted the Soviets all along (see: Kama River truck plant), just as we funded the database (aka al Qaeda), just as we supported Saddam etc etc. Some refer to it as “the best enemies money can buy”. Maybe a new plan could be to let other countries elect their own leaders, we obey and defend our own Constitution, we lead by example, and then let private organizations and charities change hearts and minds here and elsewhere.

So it is the job of this country to make war on anyone that splits the atom?

Put a 10 mile buffer zone on the south side of the border. Now...there probably needs to be a discussion about why so many Mexicans can no longer find work in Mexico. And a similar discussion about central America.
I've been suggesting that along with many others for quite some time.

Only with 2 miles.

10 is ok with me also.

We have a right to do that, being as Mexico is aiding and abetting a hostile invasion of the USA.

I talk to Afghanistan vets at least once per week.

And we talk about that war.

Not one of them has ever said anything resembling your contention that we have to honor the fallen by staying and fighting.

Every comment I’ve heard from them is along the lines of we should get out now. Or, what the hell were they thinking when we went there in the first place...

I’m in a group discussion at the VA. Lot’s of those guys there.

Where the hell did you come up with this silly idea about honoring fallen vets by sentencing more to die? That is not based on any military culture I’ve ever been exposed to.

You’re inventing silly shit from your own dreamland.

Not saying there weren’t disagreements between Bolton and POTUS, but the very public rebuke by Trump is interesting. Why not do the usual ‘thank you for your service’ comment and move on? Who’s he sending a message to? North Korea, Iran, Afghanistan? Bolton was partially brought in to play ‘Bad Cop’, so firing him in this way may also partially be deliberate optics to give Iran, Afghanistan, North Korea or all three, the political cover needed to take the next step towards a peace deal. Don’t forget that all three countries have there own war hawks who would like to prevent any peace deal with us.

Just watched Pompeo/Mnuchin presser. Both seemed relaxed - even jovial. With something as important as this, you can assume every public comment by POTUS has a purpose and is not accidental. Knowing that the world is watching, he would never publicly criticize his outgoing National Security Advisor merely to air his personal grievances with the man. It had a purpose.

Today, Rush said to watch the Dems & the Enemy Media. After decades of hating on Bolton, he’ll now be as holy to them as Mueller is now, LOL!

So predictable!
