Look, we are arguing semantics.

Under the broad umbrella of the term “democracy” is a type of democracy known as a “representative republic”. So we ARE a democracy but our form of democracy is a representative republic as opposed to a direct democracy.

The issue here, as I see it, is not about whether the word fits according to any dictionary definition.

The issue is the mindset and agenda of many people who call us a “Democracy”, rather than a Republic, and do so as part of their propaganda campaign to destroy the protections we established in our Republic from the dangers of Democracy.

Trying to rid us of the Electoral College is just one example.

“I pledge allegiance ... and to the Republic for which it stands ...”.

We are a Republic.

The pledge says so.

Ben Franklin (“ ... a Republic, ma’am, if we can keep it”), said so, while also hinting at the many dangers of losing our Republic if future generations are not vigilant.

Insisting that we call it a “Republic” is my act of vigilance against the enemies of our Constitutionally protected freedoms, who seek to destroy that by imposing greater “Democracy”.

Oh, and also, a “man” is a kind of “animal”.

So do you use the same logic and freely call out to someone “Hey animal”?

I’m sure you don’t.

Being under the umbrella of a broader category doesn’t mean one can freely substitute the broader term for the more specific one, as there are often important distinctions between the two, as, I believe, is true for both Animal/Man and Democracy/Republic, for the reasons I described in previous replies.
