EDITORIAL: Don't believe the lie of zero-emissions cars ( Colorado )
Colorado Springs Gazette ^ | Aug 27, 2019 | The Gazette editorial board

Just as the state forces Battery cars onto Colorado consumers, emerging evidence consistently show the so-called “zero-emission vehicles” pollute more than internal combustion vehicles.

The latest evidence comes in a report by the German-based IFO Institute for Economic Research, released about the same time Colorado air commissioners voted 8-1 to adopt California’s “Zero Emission Vehicle” (ZEV) standards. The new rule requires at least 5% of any automotive company’s vehicles for sale in Colorado run on electricity.

...

We all want clean air. Hickenlooper and Polis probably believe battery cars advance the goal. No credible evidence suggests they do any such thing.

...

California’s air quality has gone down since the state forced the sale of more battery cars.

The institute’s study included everything that emits CO2 from the moment production of the vehicle’s energy source begins. When accounting for the emissions involved in producing diesel fuel and emissions involved in producing mining-intensive battery production, the Tesla Model 3 in Germany (battery car) emitted up to 181 grams of CO2 per kilometer – including emissions involved in producing kilowatts for the battery. That compares to 141 grams of CO2s produced by the diesel-powered Mercedes C22d.

A 2018 study by the Bloomberg New Energy Finance and Berylls Strategy Advisors came to a similar conclusion, citing the extraordinary amount of carbon pollution caused by the production of lithium-ion batteries.

...

The state’s new ZEV standard is nothing but a feel-good fraud. There ain’t no such thing as a free lunch, a unicorn, a perpetual motion machine or a zero-emissions car.

“California’s air quality has gone down since the state forced the sale of more battery cars.”

The simple solution is to locate all stages of battery manufacture in China. That way the emissions and pollution won’t count.

Air is cleaner in Colorado as well as the whole USA than almost anywhere it the world especially the industrialized countries. The demonicrats use clean air, clean water, schools as well as many buzz words to extort tax monies in a permanent crisis. They then use the monies for their own favorite projects. Bicycle paths are quite popular liberal projects that are underused.

It’s a competitive world.

It only costs our competitors a few million bucks to bribe Democrat politicians to harm us.

This article doesn't match what my lying eyes are saying. Perhaps the pollution is moved around kinda like a bowling ball on a waterbed but I live in LaLa land and I have often been impressed with the lack of all the exhaust we used to have in cars when I was younger. Or when I'm sitting in traffic on the 405 I look at the exhaust and remember back decades ago - it was the same traffic but very different exhaust, okay the traffic was slightly better.

I was in San Jose Costa Rica a couple years back - their downtown was unwalkable by me because of all the exhaust I felt as though I could hardly breath, I could I'm sure I just wasn't used to that level of CO - I had to go a couple streets over to a less busy street.

Its really sunny here its very close to the point where its the smart money solution to have solar panels and have one electric and one gas powered car. Right now I've got dollars bouncing off my roof and I'm spending money on gas I shouldn't.

Does this make sense as you move further north probably not, and we still need to figure out this battery thing, but it seems like we are much closer. In my neck of the woods there are lots and lots of Teslas - they are ubiquitous here.

There are a ton of hybrids too - you hardly ever smell exhaust at a traffic stop and its hot.

If it weren’t for electric cars the Left would find something else to be smug about..................

More so, do we believe in Federalism anymore? Do we need different emission stds in different or "Woke" States? Do we need sanctuary cities in these States and Cities? Do they realize braniacs much smarter than I (Dennis Prager for one) have denoted all these behaviors mimic the Confederacy in around 1860 and the left doesn't even see that they are behaving this way? How does this work out.....

Awesome post - along these lines remember ...

when purchasing a politician, if possible, go for the Senator - I know they are all already purchased but if on comes available snatch it up quick horned blue one err 6 - once bought they stay bought. They are surprisingly cheap and don't need that 2 year renewal.

Seriously owning a House member is worse than a time share - the maintenance fees alone

Mining and processing the lithium, cobalt and manganese used for batteries consume a great deal of energy. A Tesla Model 3 battery, for example, represents between 11 and 15 tonnes of CO2.

Plus the child slave labor involved in mining these materials in Africa. But that doesn’t matter to the left.

And the left pushes ethanol gas which is worse than pure gas..

On a cradle-to-grace, overall emissions perspective including production of batteries and electricity to recharge them, I completely believe these two studies.

The ONLY benefits for EVs is significantly reduced point-of-use emissions and reduced noise. These are important benefits in congested urban and suburban areas where liberals live.

Their demonizing of fossil fuels is a big mistake. Time is not on their side. When the only way for their predictions to come “true” is to continuously lie then it’s only a matter of time before it’s GAME OVER.

Lived in the LA basin for a year back in 1976. My work took me from Long Beach to San Berdo and all points in between. The air quality sucked to the point that you could taste it ... I had a chronic sore throat (off & on) the entire year I lived in the LA area. In more recent years when business/personal travel takes me back to LA I've noticed a much improved air quality.

See a pattern here.

2019 Honda Insight LX (hybrid) costs $22,830 for the base model.
2019 Honda Civic Coupe LX (gas ) costs $19,350 for the base model

Nissan Leaf - $22,490
Nissan Sentra - $17,950

Chevrolet Bolt - $29,950
Chevrolet Cruze - $19995

The auto manufacturers have for many years been working to reduce emissions of internal combustion engines with pretty good success, but the emissions connected with production of certain types of batteries doesn’t seem to be keeping up & in fact may only get worse as more are made. Colorado as a state gets a considerable amount of cold & snow in the winters, too....I can only wonder exactly how the electrics will do in this environment.

You are right; solar’s usability is location dependent. When the panels are covered in snow and ice for months they don’t work too well...or last too long.

My bet is down in Costa Rica it wasn’t CO2 bothering you...it was actual pollutants. Not a trace gas like CO2.
