I've been a non-drinker and non-smoker my whole life. Ate healthy. Even ran 10Ks and marathons to stay in good physical condition and remain healthy.
But there are people today who call me "lucky" that I am so healthy at age 72.
There may be some luck involved but I worked hard my whole life to not make my health worse.
Nobody gives you credit for living right. But, like you said, people who abuse their bodies and health and then try to get clean and make it right, are lauded for all of their hard work.
I know what you mean.
