WATCH: Dana Perino Reminds AOC Of One Important Tidbit About The Electoral College

In an Instagram post on Monday, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) said the Electoral College needs to be abolished. One of her main gripes with the system was its so-called "racism."

"The Electoral College has a racial injustice breakdown," AOC explained. "Due to severe racial disparities in certain states, the electoral college effectively weights white voters over voters of color, as opposed to a 'one person, one vote' system where all are counted equally."

She addressed the biggest concern behind abolishing the Electoral College: with populous blue states making the decisions for the country as a whole.

"You may have heard this Electoral College argument the most: that families in suburbs, cities must have their vote suppressed in order to give rural votes a 'fair shake,'" Ocasio-Cortez said. "Could you imagine if we had this kind of democracy-altering 'fairness' provision for literally any other group? If we weighted, for example, Black, Indigenous voters more because of fairness?"

According to Fox News host and former White House Press Secretary Dana Perino, the Electoral College is anything but racist. And the best part of her rebuttal: she reminds Ocasio-Cortez that President Barack Obama won the Electoral College...twice.

"Is the Electoral College is racist?" Tucker Carlson asked Perino.

"It's such a disservice to the institution, to the framers of our Constitution, and, for one, it's bad for civics education," Perino said, referencing AOC's comments about the Electoral College being racist.

"And, because she drives through a rural area of the United States, riving through flyover country, then she thinks it's okay to say that these people don't matter, that the people who live here don't matter," Perino explained. "We know there are rural parts of the country. There are micro centers. There are urban areas. There's all of these things. The Electoral College, no, it's not racist. Nobody said it was racist until recently. They didn't say it when Barack Obama won the Electoral College twice."

The commies will be all for the electoral college when and if (God forbid) they win next time.

How ignorant. Many non-white people live in rural areas.

Blatant situational ethics.
When The economy was doing poorly and a pub was in power, it is the lead headline ceaselessly. When gas prices went up, Dubya was whacked over the head with it 20 times a day. When the economy is great and gas is down, no mention, at all.

AOC must think that back when the Electoral College was created the authors were trying to weight it against the millions of voting urban black slaves. 😂

These people think it should be American Idol. Blow her mind and ask the purpose of the electoral college and the original appointments of Senators. I guarantee you that they have no idea—no concept of the reasoning.

The Electoral College and the Bicamaral Legislature are products of the negotiated agreement that satisfied 13 Colonies to become one Union. The less populated colonies did not want to be voiceless and governed by the densely populated states. The densely populated states wanted the resources of the less populated states. It was considered a fair deal then and will be inalterable as long as the US exists.

“For all these reasons I still say Trump is The Last President.”

That’s my fear also. I see no one to replace him on the Republican side, so the Republicans go adrift after Trump...allowing the Dems back in control. At that point, the Dems are pedal-to-the-metal in their efforts to shred the Constitution. It’ll be too late to anoint Hillary as Queen, but you can count on the Dems to get rid of anything resembling the Presidency.

This is insane identity politics on meth.

It is still one person, one vote. What it is not, and never has been, is voting by racial blocks.

Slaves were not allowed to vote. Lack of political power has been one of the defining characteristics of slavery. Why would anyone allow property to vote?

Non-citizens are not allowed to vote. Why would any rational person allow people without a stake in the nation power to decide its government?

The Left simply opposes any system that it sees as thwarting it from achieving power at the moment.

Their definition of "racist" is anything that interferes with their lust for power over everyone.

20% of voters in the United States think it is immoral for government power to be limited in any way.

There was a prophecy a few months back, that the next POTUS in succession after DJT, Sr. serves his two terms, will also have the surname of Trump. That can only mean Don Junior or Eric.....or Baron, but he’s too young. FWIW.

Go for it, quit talking and go for it. Pass a constitutional amendment, and get the states to ratify it, or STFU.

I used to think that people quesitoning AOC’s intelligence was par for the pundit (dis)course, but that the pool of evidence is overwhelming, I can’t argue with it at all. She is an idiot.

Hey AOC, besides DC, the two states with the highest percentage of Blacks are Mississippi and Lousiana.

Those states have 6 and 9 electoral college votes respectively.

How in the hell are these states suppose to represent their black voter’s interests in Washington DC if you take away their equal footing in the Senate and their leverage in the Presidential election?

correction, 6 and 8 votes respectively.
Typo.

Also, I recognize that she said people of color which is intended to include other non whites besides african americans, but the point still holds. She makes no effort to understand what she thinks she means.

I agree. The only hope is for Trump to be re-elected and he goes Andy Jackson on the Judiciary. If he actually seals the border stops chain migration and birthright citizenship there is a slim chance he can save the republic.

The only thing I’d like to see changed about the EC is it shouldn’t be a winner takes all in the states. Whatever percentage of the vote you get in the state, you should get that percentage of the EC votes.
