TRINITY, Fla. (AP) Authorities in Florida say an armed domestic violence suspect was shot and killed by a neighbor who intervened and helped the victim and several children escape the scene.
Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco told reporters the man heard his neighbor screaming for help Wednesday and arrived to find the neighbor lowering the children out of a second-story window. He says the man helped the children and attempted to diffuse the situation, but the suspect “wasn’t having anything to do with it.”
He says the man returned to his home, and the suspected followed and shot at him. He says the man returned fire and killed the suspect.

How about “defuze” the situation instead “diffuse” the situation..

That's part of what the 2nd Amendment is all about. It's most importantly about letting government officials, elected and appointed, know that the people are not helpless in the face of tyranny. And then it's about being able to protect yourself, and others, from criminals.
I doubt that hunting ever entered the minds of the Framers.

Florida Man gets it right...good on him!
Seriously, anybody that interferes in a domestic dispute had better watch their back. Cops know this.

I may be mistaken but I think the radio report on the incident indicated the perp had either set a fire in the house or had threatened to burn the house with the kids in it.

Right. You want to defuse the bomb. You really don’t want the bomb to diffuse.

Wow...what a creep...setting the house on for with wife/kids in it.
This definitely doesn’t sound like one of those situations where cops respond to a domestic violence complaint and both of the (formerly fighting) “domestics” turn on the cops. This guy deserved to “go”. Once again, good for the Florida Man neighbor!

Sorry, although defuse can be used as a verb and synonym, 'defuse' is the more commonly, correct usage in this situation.

We dont really know his intentions. He may have wanted to spread the situation out over several adjacent blocks.

Years ago, and a few miles from me, a guy killed his female neighbor, two kids (5 and 3 years old) and the neighbor’s sister. Then burned the house down. (The neighbor gal and her sister were found naked). The neighbor’s husband was serving in Iraq at the time.
The killer was convicted and sentenced to death.
Governor Jay Inslee (just dropped out of the presidential race) has vowed that no death penalties will be carried out while he is governor. This scum-bag still lives. (Oh - I mean the murderer.)

In that case 'diffuse' would work as well!

I was involved in a case where the wife fled the house and ran into the woods to hide. The s.o.b. set the woods on fire.
