As I understand New York gun laws from the free state of Missouri, it is illegal to possess a handgun without getting permission from the state. Your pistol/revolver has to be “registered” and if it isn’t, you are subject to severe penalties. If you want to move to the state, you cannot bring your handguns with you. They will have to be stored out of state until the state deigns to give you its permission to bring your property into the state, and of course, there’s no guarantee the state will grant you permission.

NYC is even worse, I’ve heard.

When I used to live in NJ they had just passed some stupid law where you couldn't just keep a gun in your car anymore. You had to be directly going to or coming from hunting or a gun range.

A few years ago there was some idiot adult in Central Park shooting kids with an air-soft gun. (The little tiny plastic pellets).

It was charged with possession of an illegal weapon. Air-soft guns are illegal in NYC!

From the looks of this guy in his three piece suit, and his occupation as a plastic surgeon, I wonder if he didn't have some Walter Mitty type of complex.
