Greenland’s Unique Kvanefjeld Multi-element Rare Earth Project

Greenland Minerals and Energy and the Kvanefjeld Project

In total the three deposits contain approximately 270,000 tonnes of uranium and 11 million tonnes of rare earth oxide. The Kvanefjeld deposit is the largest and most rigorously defined of the three deposits and as a result it is this deposit that is the focal point of studies to evaluate the feasibility of mining and processing for the project.

If everything is for sale, I think we should buy North Korea.

Ever been on an Indian reservation? By all rights they are considered sovereign nations also. But I will stand corrected though considering history.

It’s Danish territory, much like a colony.

It's a self-governing territory on a path to complete independence.

Demark sold us their part of the Virgin islands back in 1917, so why can’t they sell Greenland if they want to?

I imagine that the fact that the people of Greenland have no interest in becoming the property of the U.S. would have a lot to do with it.

Yes I have been on an Indian reservation.

Greenland’s population is 56K and is 88% Greenlandic Inuit (including Inuit-Danish mixed), 12% Danes and other European. Not quite sure what your point is unless its the Inuit.

Its the strategic location & keeping China out! China would flank us in the North Atlantic.

Yes not sure Greenlanders they would want this.
Perhaps just transference of the Danish role to us would be enough. Regardless loss of a reliable Greenland would flank us in the North Atlantic. That problem is a bigger issue then Greenlander or Danish feelings.

I've heard that is a fairly conservative map of what Greenland would look like if all the icecaps melted.

The sheer weight of all that ice has pushed it below sea level. However, one would have to take core samplings to know for sure.

I’m thinking it would have to be more like a long term treaty than a purchase. But having exclusive rights to prevent others from coming in there would be VERY advantageous. The location has been good for us for a long time now. In 1955 my Dad was given the choice of being stationed either in Thule or England after training when he went into the Air Force, he chose England for the most obvious reason. He had already been trained in Cheyenne Wyoming during the winter and about froze his rear end off. At least England was a little warmer. :)

Rolling back continental drift how much closer to the equator was it then?

_____________

WHAT'S WITH THIS CONCEPT "CONTINENTAL DRIFT"??? I know ..... I've read about it for decades, and it sounds ABSURD.

HOW in the world can "continents" drift???

Aren't they all CONNECTED TO THE EARTH (that which is under the top layer) ..... DOWN TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH.

******

To me continental drift is as silly as PEAK OIL.

********

If somehow all the water evaporated on the earth there would be "earth" everywhere..... with what we now call "continents" sticking up in elevation just a little more than the rest of the earth.

Right or wrong?

(Now I'll go count the blades of grass in my front yard.)

;-)

the North American Continent is slowly drifting east. The slow but sure drift is causing the sea levels to rise in American coastal areas, especially in the north.

In 23 years, per the NAORC, the sea level rise could be so great that the gold vaults in the New York Federal Reserve bank on Manhattan could be flooded. The innudation of the gold will cause world wide financial panic

Agree!
Long term treaty would probably make sure that no nascent national feelings are hurt.
