Tiananmen Square Part 2?
I literally came here to type those exact words.

We’ll see if China has upped their game.

Looking like that. And this time they won’t be able to sweep video evidence under the rug like they did the first time. If they do make this the sequel, there will be huge pressure on companies to GTFO of China after the videos get out.

I thought the extradition bill was taken off the table weeks ago.

though I’m sure there are other reasons to protest.

But they’re not gonna get what they want, which is the freedom they had under England.

At least not without a lot of bloodshed.

Past tense now I guess

Protesters stage a sit-in rally at the arrival hall of the Hong Kong International Airport in Hong Kong, China on Aug. 13, 2019

The protestors need to go home. They won a big victory and proved their power against the extradition bill. Now no one can even speak to what their new demands are. HK’s economy is starting to go into the toilet and public opinion is quickly turning against them.

Pull back, organize yourselves, and come up with plan for the long game against China.

China is making Trump look like a GENIUS.

Which he is.

I would only say to the Hong Kong protestors, that they need the rest of the people of Hong Kong and they will turn off the general Hong Kong population, not win them over, if the population - as opposed to the government of Hong Kong - are the ones who are disrupted the most.

I think the U.S. (and anyone else) cannot do too much and some things it could do would tend to implicate the U.S. as an instigator and taint the home grown nature of the protest.

I think the ONLY thing substantial the U.S. can do can’t be done until the dictatorship takes its Tiananmen Square II move. Then the U.S. can offer green cards to every citizen of Hong Kong.

Maybe but while as both are “public spaces” there is a lot more justification in keeping a major airport open, than simply running tanks over people protesting in an open space.

Michael Yon says the protestors didn’t disrupt anything at the airport and the government shut down the airport as a ruse to escalate the situation.

Taiwan is watching this very closely. They need nukes so badly to keep China from overwhelming them one day, too.

I don’t blame them, airport needs to be open. Protest at government buildings, shut those down.

It’s a shame the citizens are unarmed. This is the direction our government will take us when the tyrants get control. Trump is the only one standing in the way.

Tiananmen Square meant revolt and dissent result in death. A lesson from the Chinese government.

I don’t see how a second one would not result in death and horror for all to see. But what would the result be? More suppression? More deaths?

I feel sorry for the dissenters under a Chinese regime which does not allow it.

I think I am missing something others see here. I mean that sincerely.

Another day to thank God again for our beloved free republic.

There is a large number of Chinese forces already amassing on the border. If they enter the territory to impose order Tiananmen-Square-style, they won’t be using rubber bullets and bean bag rounds. The protesters are perfectly right in their demands, and they are right in their fury at the brutality of Hong Kong’s Police Force, but they must now exercise that virtue which is stereotypically Chinese: pragmatism.

Mainland China has had an authoritarian government for thousands of years, and demanding recognition of democracy from them at this stage is about as much use as asking a tiger to eat lettuce. Against China, they cannot win, and if China enters Hong Kong to impose order, the cost will be unimaginable.
