Hong Kong International Airport canceled all flights for the second straight day on Tuesday as crowds of anti-government protesters clashed with police as they continued to occupy the terminals.
"Terminal operations at Hong Kong International Airport have been seriously disrupted, and all check-in processes have now been suspended," the airport authority said in a statement Tuesday afternoon.
Travelers at the airport, one of the world's busiest, were advised to leave the terminals as quickly as possible and contact the airlines for more information.
Some flights were able to depart from the airport earlier on Tuesday before the suspension was announced. Flights have also been allowed to land in Hong Kong.
Protesters in the semi-autonomous city have held massive rallies since early June to protest an extradition bill that would have allowed any country -- including China -- to request the extradition of an individual from Hong Kong for trial. Many who oppose the proposed legislation fear that China could use it to arrest political dissidents.

I literally came here to type those exact words.
We’ll see if China has upped their game.
Looking like that. And this time they won’t be able to sweep video evidence under the rug like they did the first time. If they do make this the sequel, there will be huge pressure on companies to GTFO of China after the videos get out.
I thought the extradition bill was taken off the table weeks ago.
though I’m sure there are other reasons to protest.
But they’re not gonna get what they want, which is the freedom they had under England.
At least not without a lot of bloodshed.

The protestors need to go home. They won a big victory and proved their power against the extradition bill. Now no one can even speak to what their new demands are. HK’s economy is starting to go into the toilet and public opinion is quickly turning against them.
Pull back, organize yourselves, and come up with plan for the long game against China.
I think both Foxconn and Pegatron are seriously considering leaving China if these political debacle continues.
China is making Trump look like a GENIUS.

These people are sitting ducks. I fear for them all.
I would only say to the Hong Kong protestors, that they need the rest of the people of Hong Kong and they will turn off the general Hong Kong population, not win them over, if the population - as opposed to the government of Hong Kong - are the ones who are disrupted the most.
I think the U.S. (and anyone else) cannot do too much and some things it could do would tend to implicate the U.S. as an instigator and taint the home grown nature of the protest.
I think the ONLY thing substantial the U.S. can do can’t be done until the dictatorship takes its Tiananmen Square II move. Then the U.S. can offer green cards to every citizen of Hong Kong.
Once a crowd gets a taste of mobacrasy, it can become a thirst.
You are right, they would be better off preparing and doong important things with family and loved ones.
Maybe but while as both are “public spaces” there is a lot more justification in keeping a major airport open, than simply running tanks over people protesting in an open space.

The thing it abuses the most is it’s people.

Actually they’re mostly students at young people at the airport protesting.
Riot police are retreating now.
Michael Yon says the protestors didn’t disrupt anything at the airport and the government shut down the airport as a ruse to escalate the situation.
Taiwan is watching this very closely. They need nukes so badly to keep China from overwhelming them one day, too.
I understand why young people there are angry. HK is a super-expensive and crowded city. Its really tough to get ahead. Its clear that many society and politics have changed a lot in the 20 years of Chinese rule. The shadow of Beijing is over everything in the city. Most HK people agree on this.
But now these protests have no clear goals nor even any clear demands. Shutting down the airport, subway and downtown streets are just making average people miserable. It could be China even has a strategy of provoking violence to get exactly this response.
That's why these protestors need to go home and organize themselves, and quickly, into a potent political force. Stay as a powerful latent threat to China, and keep the goodwill of the average HK person.
