The most that happens here is a list of recommendations to do better in the future. No one is going down for this. Those that were involved in this murder know that. They didn’t have much to lose.

Here is what the deal was. I don’t know, but I can surmise. Suicide watch ends at 2200. Your suicide will ensure that your family will be taken care of. Proceed accordingly.

The worst part of it is: we’ll have to listen to Hannity yammer on endlessly about how his mother was a prison guard, blah, blah, blah.

Oh gawd, I forgot about that. He’ll add it to his Bleachbit, hammered phones, acid wash mantra, all while talking over his interviewees and bloviating nonsensical small talk with his producer.

government employees don’t get fired for overworked overtime duties. you can kill yourself in 4 minutes.

Sometimes suicidal prisoners are given roomates who are, essentially spies for the prison to keep an eye on them. That would be the type of cellmate he would’ve had. But I agree, the simplest thing would’ve been continuous direct observation, either by staff or camera.

Five days of OT, how could they manage?

it was so short-staffed on his last night alive that one guard on his unit was working a fifth straight day of overtime

They normally work 2 days and take 5 days off?

Only the Munchkins in the "Wizard of Oz" have it better: "We get up at noon and start to work at one; take an hour for lunch and then at two we're done; jolly good fun".

Hannity’ mom was prison guard. His dad was a probation officer.

Don’t security prisons have to have security cameras in every cell?
So wouldn’t this be on camera somewhere?

They have cameras in the Manhattan BOP facility but there was a bleach bit incident, like with a cloth.

Oh, the humanity.

“Apparently guards sleep instead of work when they do overtime”

LOL - Good point.

Smoke or not, prisons are notorious for running shifts without the legally required number of guards. Yes, decades of personal knowledge here. There’s a large turnover rate because no one enjoys having feces and urine thrown at them.

Guards get time and a half (your mileage may vary) working extra shifts. That’s good money but causes a lot of burn out and sloppy work. These guards will be fired but it won’t stop the practice.

This is a complete smokescreen, it shouldn’t matter that the guards weren’t checking on him. How could he hang himself? What did he use to hang himself from? (Why would ANY jail cell have something in the ceiling useable as a hanging point?) What material in his cell was strong enough to do the job?

Working an 80 hour week for the Feds, 40 hours of double time, plus 40 hours of accrued leave. Rough job though, walking around looking at screens. That night time duty is rough.
