Heidi Brown, a retired U.S. Army major general, argued sexual assault allegations Gen. John Hyten (nominated to be the next Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff) lack merit in a piece for the Wall Street Journal published Thursday.
"Army Col. Kathryn Spletstoser's accusations are graphic and nauseating. But they are discredited by evidence," Brown writes in the Journal. "I have reviewed the written record of the case, including a redacted report from the Army Inspector General Office, and spoken with people involved. I served at Stratcom headquarters in Omaha, Neb., with both Gen. Hyten and Col. Spletstoser, including at the time of one of the claimed assaults. While she confided in me over various issues, she never brought up an assault by Gen. Hyten."
In 2018, Spletstoser was relieved of her position after being accused of "toxic leadership," which included "intimidating, abusive and threatening behavior toward subordinates." Hyten had approved an investigation which corroborated the claims against Spletstoser.
...Brown said the Senate should confirm Hyten, and the Army should investigate Spletstoser for perjury.

But, but, we must BELIEVE HER!
As I’ve told folks before, my experiences with accusations of sexual assault against military women indicate nearly 50% are false. Don’t believe anyone, no matter haw sympathetic and sincere they seem. Verifiable facts are all that matter.
If she is lying, why is she still an officer in the Army?
Everything I have read about this situation suggests that she’s crazy. Anyone in the civilian world (other than those in government unions, tenured “educators”, and a few other exceptions) would have become unemployed months ago with no Tricare or pension waiting for them.
And everyone made fun of Mike Pence when he said publicly he would not be alone with a woman colleague or subordinate.
In politics, its the smart thing to do - telling leftist opponents right off the bat that you are immunized against their biological attacks.
“If she is lying, why is she still an officer in the Army?”
She is currently retired, but can be recalled to active duty for a Court Martial.
She is retired but can be recalled to active duty. This all came up just a few months back when Hyten was nominated for VCJCS.
She might have remained retired with no further investigations or consequences but no; the crazy idiot had to try to get revenge for perceived injustices. If they charge her with perjury they can recall her to active duty, hold a Courts Martial, and if convicted, reduce her in rank, or take other actions to take retirement from her. The Army seems happy to be rid of her toxic presence.
She did this to herself.
Screaming at her four star commander abusively was enough to bring in his personal security detail.
That alone could have brought her up on insubordination and conduct unbecoming charges at the least.
I served with female officers like this during my career and in many cases their commanders will see to it they are promoted; out of fear or just to get their toxic asses out of the unit. Not fair, but for those who have to deal with them it is a way to remove a threat to good morale.
She rode the Affirmative Action Bus for a long, long ride...
