WARNING: How the VA “red-flags” patriots
michellemalkin.com ^ | 08/07/2019 | Michelle Malkin

Gun-grabbing crisis vultures just can’t let the latest mass shootings go to waste. “Red flag” laws are now all the rage in the Beltway as the magic pill to prevent homicidal maniacs from wreaking havoc on the nation. Even President Donald Trump has endorsed the idea of preemptively confiscating people’s firearms if they are deemed a “threat.”

But if you want to know how this American version of China’s social credit system would work in practice, let me remind you of how Veterans Affairs recklessly red-flags “disruptive” citizens without due process, transparency or accountability in the name of “safety.” Government bureaucrats routinely deprive our nation’s heroes of medical treatment based on arbitrary definitions of who and what constitutes a mental health menace.

I first reported on the VA’s secretive database on “disgruntled” and “disruptive” vets five years ago. Under the VA policy on “patient record flags,” federal bureaucrats can classify vets as “threats” based on assessments of their “difficult,” “annoying” and “noncompliant” behavior. The VA manual says the flags “are used to alert Veterans Health Administration medical staff and employees of patients whose behavior and characteristics may pose a threat either to their safety, the safety of other patients, or compromise the delivery of quality health care.”

or compromise the delivery of quality health care

So if I don't conscientiously take my one prescribed baby aspirin every day, they can red flag me?

I think the thing to do is to keep Congress busy crafting these types of laws, only to veto it if it reaches the White House, on the grounds that it’s just not quite right yet, and should go back to committee and start over.

A variation on the “no fly list”. Once you’re on it, it’s next to impossible to get off.

I hope and pray that is exactly what PDJT intends to do.

He’s good at feinting in the direction of Dems’ demands, but this is his biggest test yet.

Red Flag laws reverse the presumption of innocence, and thus removes the 5th Amendment protections against self incrimination.

“Red Flag” laws are especially pernicious, as they will allow lefties to report ANYONE they know who is a gun owner. That is why the Democrats are doing cartwheels over the fact so many Republican congresscritters are going along with them. The system will be overwhelmed with the confiscations, such that it will be years before any are resolved.

Does anyone think I’m exaggerating? If they do, they don’t know the “progressives.”

The field of psychology, which I view as only slightly more credible than the practice of phrenology, will once again be employed by government to disarm free citizens based on virtually any complaint, regardless of evidentiary foundation. What could possibly go wrong? And, what will be the penalty for false reporting? This is a true, reflexive “wag the dog” moment.

History is replete with examples where the abuse of psychology was used to impose totalitarian controls against political dissidents. The most egregious was the Soviet Union, which established “Psikhushkas” (mental hospitals) for the sole purpose of incarcerating political enemies of the Soviet Union, and they were managed by the KGB until 1991.

Red Flag laws are the perfect nexus for enabling the new Soviet state in America.

It is much much bigger than just firearms, It opens a door of precedence for opportunists which should never be opened.

Red Flag laws reverse the presumption of innocence

Thank you for penning such a succinct description of "Red Flag laws." I'll add my own modifiers when using it!

Brilliant

Prescribed baby aspirin? Talk to your VA doc. Recent studies have reversed the medical teaching—the 81 mg daily dose is no longer recommended for the general population, and only for those with established heart disease, in which case it almost always will be only one of several Rx medications being taken.

"I get the best care of my life at the VA."

"Superior in every way. "

I have nothing but praise for the VA in Biloxi, less so in Mobile.

It will be applied to conservatives, and not applied to collectivists...

... like the terms of service of the publicly-traded social media corporations who are supposed to operate as open platforms.

Demonicrats, by definition, should all be red-flagged, then indicted, tried and convicted for being lying, murdering traitors.
