Big Labor warned Democratic presidential contenders Wednesday against taking union support for granted, adding that Dems would need to be more honest about the party’s record on workers’ rights, reports said.

The president of the AFL-CIO labor union, which represents 12.5 million union workers, addressed a closed-door meeting with representatives from each campaign in attendance before the second round of debates Wednesday in Detroit.

AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka argued that “both parties” needed to take responsibility for U.S. labor laws that benefit corporations to the detriment of the middle class.

Empty threat from communist Trumka and they know it. The union leadership will always back the RATS. The rank and file are a different story.

Al Gore pandered, embarrassingly, to unions but still lost. Lots of Trump support among the dues-paying members.

Don’t know a blue collar union guy that didn’t vote for Trump.

Being the Head of the AFL only gives you political capital when people actually listen to you.

“Don’t take union workers’ support for granted”

He’s warning about the rank-and-file; they helped deliver most of the upper Midwest to Trump.

Al Gore may have pandered to some unions, but threatened the jobs of many union members with his “eco-bullsh!t” - and it cost him his home state of Tennessee (as well as BJ Clinton’s home state of Arkansas).

Waiting for the unions to demand that the government expel all the illegals who are taking working-class American’s jobs.

Won’t hold my breath.

Those union leaders are usually talking about the union money and endorsement they control while using the rank and file as proxy. However, if Trumka truly means the rank and file, he needs to look in the mirror because he and his fellow bosses are the ones alienating the rank and file by taking their money and throwing it at anyone sporting a D after their name.

My union boss was grumbling about rank & file's support of Trump in his December 2016 newsletter right after Trump's victory. This is a COLLEGE STAFF education Union. In LOS ANGELES.

People did not realize how significant that was, but I did.

I have the newsletter framed, and hanging right here on my wall.

I think Trump is hoping California's Harris is the Dem nominee, and believes he can win California in 2020 - given his consistent support for economic and criminal-reform policies that are helping African Americans, while Harris has enforced some very harsh destructive ones as CA's AG. Just a little wishful fantasy of mine . :)

I can’t see how unions would be interested in Medicare-for-All. They have negotiated excellent health care plans, and I can see members wanting to stand in line with illegals. My father, who paid every type of tax for 60 years, once went to Banner Hospital emergency room in Mesa, AZ, for a broken ankle from a bicycle accident. He waited hours to be seen in a room packed with Spanish speakers, many certainly illegals. This is what’s in store under Medicare-for-All.

My dad worked for GM for 30 years. Huge UAW guy.

I clearly remember all of the stuff the UAW was for back in the 80s, and fail to even find one tiny piece of the Democrats today that remotely espouse the same stuff.

But I can see tons of it in what Trump says.

Union bosses have let the rank and file think they’ll get an exemption.

And they might, for a while...

The rank and file are a different story.

I have several in-laws who are lifelong Teamster members. About half are retired, but still participate in the "union" stuff.

After their union told them they MUST vote for Obama (and most of them did), they regretted it! When the economy tanked and then kept tanking and then went into a long-term skid rated as the same value as a bucket of warm spit, they said NO MORE!

Most of them are truck drivers and they saw what NAFTA did to the US trucking industry - it wasn't pretty. Then add on Obama's new truck "safety" regulations that really put a stranglehold on one of the few blue-collar jobs where tough grit could make you wealthy and you got to own your own business. Obama's rules were NOT designed for the truck driver nor the small, mom-n-pop owner/operators...they were designed for the large, CORPORATE trucking businesses!

Everyone of them voted for Trump. I feel very confident that they will again. I have been married into that family for 32 years (although I have known them for another 4), politics was something that we never saw eye-to-eye, until they saw what Obama and the Democrats did to the economy and left it in a partial flat-line state, and called it the "new normal!"

Trumka, the full on communist, is loving the direction the democrat party is taking. I’m sure he counseled the candidates to quite being so honest about their socialist plans. If they want rank and file support the Dems need to get back to the lies they’ve used so effectively for decades.
