New Jersey will allow terminally ill to legally commit suicide

Terminally ill New Jersey adults will be able to decide when it’s time to die starting Thursday, when the state begins allowing patients to self-administer lethal drugs.

The “Medical Aid in Dying for the Terminally Ill Act” lets mentally sound Garden State residents with six months or fewer left to live request a cocktail of drugs to end their lives.

“This law provides incredible peace of mind to people in my situation, knowing they have this option within reach,” said Susan Boyce, an advocate for the law and potentially one of its beneficiaries, according to NJ.com. “It does a lot to counteract the fear and uncertainty about what the end is going to be like, and are you going to be able to stand it.”

Boyce, 56, has a slow-moving and incurable disease that will eventually leave her unable to breathe and render her immune system ineffectual.

everyone already has the option to die....stop eating, stop drinking, stop taking meds, or just take too many meds.....

we don't give a flip about it.....

but no, you just had to involve the public and its vast tax base so you can feel so superior and righteous.....

its a very sad thing to have a terminal disease but we generally give the terminally ill people in this country vast amounts of drugs and have organizations like hospice that will help usher you along your way...

but we have to have another stinking law and another stinking "right" that we must abide by....

So the government of New Jersey will allow a bunch of people from this state to kill themselves.

I'm scratching my head here, trying to understand what the downside of this is supposed to be.

Boy you bring up a good point.

Get 100 2mg xanax and a bottle of JD and it’s probably over.

Or get Pentobarbital illegally from China or in Mexico where they sell it in some pet stores.

Guns aren’t too hard to come by. One in the mouth.

Take 50 xanax in the bathtub and drown.

Take 75 xanax while sitting in a chair with a noose around your neck. You’ll fall over and die.

Last thing we need a law for is so that people can kill themselves.

I didn’t even include klonopin, valium (harder to get) oxys, roxys, percs...

Would that be good law in all states? And yes , these people are terminally ill , not simply a “bunch of people”

That’s one of the problems with New Jersey’s very restrictive gun rights laws. They’ve made it so difficult for someone to commit suicide - the government has to get involved now!

I'm scratching my head here, trying to understand what the downside of this is supposed to be.

Because it will escalate - it always does. Next it will be your loved one who needs expensive medical care, and is deemed by the State to be expendable, and denied care.

Or you - when you are in pain and very sick, approached in your hospital bed by a bureaucrat with a clip board. You have two choices, "Die with Dignity", or be discharged after we cut off your medication and deny you a related medical procedure that would ease your suffering.

Trust me - that's the End Game.

Whether or not suicide is legal becomes irrelevant once you succeed. My objection is to those who pretend that this is medical care and demand that my tax dollars and insurance premiums subsidize their immoral choices.

The original Hippocratic Oath includes the statements: “I will use treatment to help the sick according to my ability and judgment, but never with a view to injury and wrong-doing. Neither will I administer a poison to anybody when asked to do so, nor will I suggest such a course. Similarly I will not give to a woman a pessary to cause abortion.”

This has been part of the social wars between good and evil for thousands of years. Until the past few decades, we had the energy and courage to win against the malice and the bullying of the far left. We need to step up our game again.

". . . I had the ability to speak out, to represent a group of patients who are terminally ill and don’t have the strength,” Boyce said.

Susan,

Terminally ill patients don't have the strength to fight against suicide doctors.

Really, we all do. Nobody is getting out of this place alive.

My problem is with involving the state in the process at all.

people already do this with morphine or similar drug and as others say the person chooses to stop eating and especially drinking water - all available to people now. NO need to make more laws or anything.

The goal of the left is to force us all to pay for euthanasia, abortion, aids treatment, and sex-”change” operations.

I live on Staten Island.

Everyone knows where guns are sold in their area.

Come on.

This is only a first step. Next, doctors will be forced to perform this.

Wow. The terminally ill could go to jail if they kill themselves. 😮
