James Comey's next reckoning is imminent — this time for leaking
The Hill ^ | 7/31/2019 | john Solomon

Posted on 07/31/2019 6:18:44 PM PDT by bitt

The Justice Department’s chief watchdog is preparing a damning report on James Comey’s conduct in his final days as FBI director that likely will conclude he leaked classified information and showed a lack of candor after his own agency began looking into his feud with President Trump over the Russia probe.

Inspector General (IG) Michael Horowitz’s team referred Comey for possible prosecution under the classified information protection laws, but Department of Justice (DOJ) prosecutors working for Attorney General William Barr reportedly have decided to decline prosecution — a decision that’s likely to upset Comey's conservative critics.

Prosecutors found the IG’s findings compelling but decided not to bring charges because they did not believe they had enough evidence of Comey’s intent to violate the law, according to multiple sources.

The concerns stem from the fact that one memo that Comey leaked to a friend specifically to be published by the media — as he admitted in congressional testimony — contained information classified at the lowest level of “confidential,” and that classification was made by the FBI after Comey had transmitted the information, the sources said.

Although a technical violation, the DOJ did not want to “make its first case against the Russia investigators with such thin margins and look petty and vindictive,” a source told me, explaining the DOJ’s rationale.

He won’t be prosecuted, that’s all that matters.

I am so glad the FBI is the most venerated law enforcement organization in the world, admired for its integrity...

These gutless prosecutors did not know my dad. He always said to me “don’t be afraid to fail”!

The American People have lost ALL respect for the FBI. The way they are going with this, namely seeming to always find an excuse NOT to prosecute, they will never regain RESPECT.

This is Barr’s decision and won’t look good on him.

Just watched Solomon on Hannity.
Not liking what I’m hearing.
Solomon says these specific crimes by Comey
related to leaking is closed. No charges.
Nor do I believe ANYONE will be charged
with anything.
It all will just be used as a political weapon
to get the base out in 2020. Just like it always is.
With no one involved paying a criminal price.
Looks like new AG boss is same as old AG boss.
“Trust Sessions”. Yeah right.

I’m on my last nerve with all this “decline to prosecute” crap, too.

But, I can see Barr’s position. These perps need to be skewered for the crimes that count the most, not wrist-slapped in front of a judge inclined to be lenient while the media and the twattersphere scream about ‘Trump’s police state tactics’.

I hate this drip, drip, splat s#!+.

Muller and his team even made up evidence to prosecute people connected to Trump. If Comey was a republican and Muller had the current information available on Comey then Muller’s team would have thrown the book at him.

According to the poster on another site, this was a sea anemone captured by a Russian trawler.

Disgusting cowardice.

Double standards remain.

And Paul Manafort was put in solitary?
.
All the innocent people dragged into special counsel’s web of deceit at horrendously expensive legal expense. Never mind the trashing of their good names?

DISGUSTING

This does not need to be in the news. Just arrest the man, and summarily dispose of him and the other 2,000 or so who use their office to deprive the American people of the rule of law.

because they did not believe they had enough evidence of Comey’s intent to violate the law....

What is it with this intent crap? None of us would or could get away with that defense or find a prosecutor sympathetic to that argument. I'm tired of this crap...........

I agree with you. Especially if Barr thinks that they can get Comey on something bigger, and with much more solid evidence.

Comey would be prosecuted to the benefit of Donald J. Trump. And the GOPe will never allow that because they hate Trump every bit as much as the Democrats do.

“Solomon says these specific crimes by Comey related to leaking is closed.”

Like it or not, it’s clearly not a strong case. We need to wait and see what comes with John Durham’s investigation into SpyGate. I don’t think James Comey can skate through that serious sedition business.

Barr is just slow walking the case and moving the goal posts. Next time it will be “the DOJ did not want to “make its first case against the Russia investigators so close to the election”...

Also, recall Mueller’s angry Democrats had perjury traps, criminal indictments and guilty in months. And of course we are now years from the Deep State treasonous crimes in question.

Does Comey get to keep his pension too ? Wtf? He can be charged for this crime and other crimes that come about later. I’m starting to think everyone is just being manipulated with this drama to distract us from the mentally retarded growth of the federal government. Break the law go to jail like regular Americans for fucks sake!

Comey and his co-conspirators have had years to destroy evidence and conspire. Don’t expect the cases to get any stronger from here.
