President Trump should make this an issue for Democrats. All he would have to say is,
“OAC is silly and doesn’t understand PR and their needs. PR doesn’t want to ‘Decolonize’. They love America more than she does.”
Then all Democrats would chase down 10,000 PRs to protest and demand independence. Trump could say, “OK. I want everyone to be happy. Let’s have congress vote on it.”
DONE! They are no longer a US Territory and are on their own. Close the boarders and move all US Govt. assets, property and military out, ASAP. WINNER!!!!!
Cortez, you’re yesterday. Get used to it. ‘Flash in the pan’ comes to mind.
Give it back to Spain, no Charge.
If it were not for the USA,PR would be no better than Cuba.
Why?
Why does AOC get ALL the air time? Who is behind her pulling strings?
In the treaty ending the Spanish-American War, Spain gave the USA: Guam, the Philippines, Puerto Rico and Cuba.
“Fidel is sitting back ready to pounce and take over an independent PR.”
Yeah, I doubt that.
PR independence NOW!!!!
No more money from US! Stand on your own!
NO more aid!
You can do it?
Good Riddance!
Cut ‘em loose and cut ‘em off!
PR. Be careful for what you ask for.
Trump might give you what you want.
(Please?)
They have voted a number of times about whither they want to petition for statehood, stay a territory or become independent. Territory has always won by a large margin.
The people there are citizens of the US by act of Congress for 100 years.
Cutting them loose is problematic because of that.
And here we are.
Fidel is dead. they finally admitted it officially Nov 25 2016, although IMHO he had actually been dead for about a year longer.
And also IMHO, Cuba has no good reason to take over P.R. All it would do is double their problems with no long term benefits. At least in Venezuela there are natural resources for them to steal.
Castro and his minions have been busy throughout the Hispanic countries for many years seeking influence, causing disruption and confusion much like the Russian attacks on the US. Cuba has a strong presence in Venezuela now. Puerto Rico will be a piece of cake as the only military is the US National Guard which would disappear with independence.
Cuba is communist and they are always seeking to disrupt and dismantle weak countries. They are working now to be the major player in Venezuela.
Did you tell me a former Governor Don Luis Luis Ferre tried to increase usage of English back in the day?
A pity that didn’t take.
Did you mean to ask Auh2o that ? I know it cuts to your core, Jorge, (and Ferre's, too), but you can understand why the prospect of PR becoming a state is a no sale for any time in near-future. Sadly, the NPP scandals (under a Democrat-aligned Guv, as is the incoming Justice Sec) may end up driving it to the Populares (also Dem). They really need to formally align under the mainland parties. Only the Resident Commissioner is a Republican, and she may fall simply because she is elected as an NPP'er.
Sure, give them their independance they have been a net loss and money pit the US taxpayers have been footing the bill for nearly forever.
Maybe AOC can be their first president that they can take their rage out on when she utterly fails due to her complete lack of any notion of reality.
Imagine ....
I thought it was you who mentioned that about Governor Ferre. Makes more sense it was Auh.
Anyway, it’s a very unfortunate situation. PR Statehood (ironically given most PR Republicans are Statehooders and the Commonwealthers are officially aligned with the rats, Auho told me about one PDP Mayor who was Republican, I forgot his name) appears to be very partisan issue at this point, with rats (despite the Commonwealth lean of Island rats) starting to clamor for it, desperate to pickup a couple Senate seats and some E-votes and Republicans being loathe to risk that happening.
