According to police, a 12-year-old is solely responsible for the drawings.

Heard it was a 12 year old GIRL. (possibly a minority girl but no news yet; if so it will be squelched)

Cuomo has pulled out all the stops on this one.

I don’t know the details of the case, but I don’t think that a 12 year-old drawing swastikas on buildings is necessarily a “hate crime.” A lot of 12 year-olds are smart-asses who cause mischief just for the hell of it, and without realizing the implications of what they are doing.

The world began circling the toilet as soon as we accepted the concept behind the words “hate crime” (which, by the way, I will NEVER accept).

Not a “progressive activist” favoring small hats?

Wow.

Even if they did, SO FRIGGING WHAT?! Arrest them for graffiti. I don’t GIVE A DAMN if it makes some people quiver with fear or feel bad.

Yeah. Nazis were bad. Yeah... it’s stupid and in bad taste. Yeah... some people might find it offensive. Well, some people might be offended by orange peppers, too, or sandpaper. Suck it up, snowflakes.

No way could a 12 year old understand the history behind this. It is just a way to get a reaction like dropping the f*** bomb used to be, before the left made it so commonplace.

Swastikas are easy to draw.
All straight lines.

I was in Europe a few years back, NW parts. There was so damn much graffiti...unreal. If it wasn’t moving, it had paint on it.
A huge statue of Von Bismarck in Lubeck Germany...all covered in paint.
Those migrant utes...so gifted with artistic expression..

They are charging him with a hate crime because they hate what the kid did! That will teach the kid not to hate!

My college town. When I was a senior I had a single in what was mostly a freshman dorm (1980). We used to all hang those dry erase boards on our doors and one night I came back to my having a swastika on it. Obviously a drunk freshman from my floor. He came clean and we talked about it and he apologized and that was it.

I still donate to the place, am very proud of graduating from there. Even though the long-time President of the Colleges (Hobart & William Smith) was Mark Gearen, the former head of the Peace Corps under Clinton, Mark was always careful to not allow the political correctness get out of hand at the school. The town itself is not really well off and sometimes you just get a knucklehead that needs to clean off graffiti for about 7 days to learn the lesson.

Geneva is finally revitalizing it’s downtown nicely and would be a great place to live given how cheap housing is there. And we grads get to take a course for free.

If I were ever charged with a “hate crime” I’d ask for what the legal definition was. To my understanding there isn’t one. How can I know what the boundaries are? At what point does art become “hate speech”. Surely this falls under free speech???

Having lived in inner-city Rochester I disagree about Geneva revitalizing. I live about 7 minutes away from the city of Geneva and every day there are headlines about people getting shot and restaurants being held up by “yutes” in hoodies which is why I will not patronize any restaurant in the Geneva area. Frankly from what I’ve seen it’s turned into a mini Hood similar to Rochester or Syracuse.
Yes the buildings themselves are receiving government grants to revitalize... in fact my husband’s business did air conditioning for one of them in Franklin Square but until they get a handle on the urban problems it will only deteriorate.

The irony is that Cuomo has just done the “Raise the Age” act which basically states that if you’re 17 years old and commit an axe murder then you can be let off because you didn’t know what you were doing

however so-called hate crimes of graffiti by a 12 year old are a different matter entirely and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Choking down the camel while straining out the gnat.

What they have done to Auburn, Geneva, and many other places where there are “correctional facilities” NYC sends the family to live there because “dad” is doing “20 to life”. NYC pays to have them moved, for several reasons of which it is the lower cost of living, and proximity to the jail for visiting day.
