Trump Threatens Guatemala With Tariffs and Remittance Fees for Breaking Safe Third Agreement
GP ^

President Trump threatened Guatemala on Tuesday with tariffs and remittance fees after the Central American country pulled out of their agreement with the Trump administration.

As The Hill reported the two countries had not formally committed to such a safe third deal, which would require Guatemala to process asylum claims from migrants who set foot there first on their way to the United States. Guatemala’s Constitutional Court earlier this month blocked President Jimmy Morales from declaring the nation a safe third country.

President Trump: Guatemala, which has been forming Caravans and sending large numbers of people, some with criminal records, to the United States, has decided to break the deal they had with us on signing a necessary Safe Third Agreement. We were ready to go. Now we are looking at the “BAN,” Tariffs, Remittance Fees, or all of the above. Guatemala has not been good. Big U.S. taxpayer dollars going to them was cut off by me 9 months ago.

Soros must be paying the Guatemalan Gov’t more than Trump is offering.

“which has been forming Caravans and sending large numbers of people, some with criminal records”

This is ridiculous. There are no “criminal records” in Guatemala; if they exist, it’s because someone didn’t have the mordida money to buy them out of existence.

If they’re in a “caravan” (=Invasion force), they’re ALL criminals and they know it: invading another country is not just a crime but an act of War. If they’re smart enough to know they have to be in a group, they damn well know they’re crossing some bright red lines.

Guatamala and Honduras are the bad parts of Central America in the eyes of many—even in Mexico.

Stop threatening and JUST DO IT! Threats with no enforcing action are worthless. Just ask a five-year old.

Mexico is far worse than Guatemala.

El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua, now, those are different.

Jesus help us. I just looked it up and the USA runs a trade deficit with backwards Guatemala!!! Free Traitors™ are responsible for this BS.

Guatemala ranked No. 44 in total trade value through May with a total of $4.53 billion. Exports totaled $2.8 billion and Imports totaled $1.73 billion, a surplus of $1.08 billion.

It’s about time the US quits contributing to the retirement accounts of the Central and South American despots.

See, they can STOP people from entering their country if they don’t want to do all that work.

But letting them walk through their country on the way to the USA is really CRAPPY of them to do.

So tariff and fine the crap out of them until they realize they can just STOP THEM at their border.

Guatemala’s Constitutional Court earlier this month blocked President Jimmy Morales from declaring the nation a safe third country.

So, it would appear that Guatemala's supreme court has officially declared its country is an unsafe shithole? Nice to know.

Remittance Fees is the answer to saving and fattening up and assuring the solvency of Social Security; from remittances to Mexico and nations south.

Recall our ambassador for a while, send theirs home too. Close the border to Guatemalans for a few months.

You would be surprised to find that some on these “caravans” when checked out have been here before, have a criminal record here, some have been previously deported from here. Some also have criminal records in other countries like Mexico.

Some of these people have been coming and going for a while. I guess they were hoping to blend in with the large groups, and be overlooked.
