What/Who did he ask God to damn?

For example...don't say "God damn it" when you're working on your vehicle and you get frustrated with the work as He just might grant your request and then you're really in a pickle.

The same goes with "God damn you". Do you really want God to damn that person?

And don't get mad when your vehicle has more problems.
It;s your own fault.
He's just doing what you asked Him to do!

2 Kings 2
24 He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of the Lord. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the boys.

Instant retribution in that case.

In my opinion, asking God to damn something is NOT taking His name in vain...It is asking for His help....

Trump should have watched his language. Kids come to these.

This is a terrible rationalization of an objectvitly mortal sin. All of history is against your argument.

You are quite incorrect. The Hebrews/Jews made it a violation of the Holy name to try and speak it, God Himself did not. But NOWHERE is His Holy name ever written into scripture. Christ Himself spoke against abusing Heavenly authority, not against poor pronunciation.

It is not a mortal sin to speak a name. It is a sin to abuse the authority of God's power and both the Old and New Testaments are rife with examples of how this is true.

So one Democrat state senator and one Free Republic eccentric are mentioned and that qualifies for “called out by some Christians”?

That 2nd Kings passage is something else again. I have always remembered that one.

Sometimes with my jr high students I would utter the great W.C. Fields's line Godfrey Daniels!! They all thought I had sworn. Phrases like "Oh my goodness" or "My gosh" were supposedly invented by Puritan children to avoid blaspheming. But God's name, and how to say it, is lost to us because Hebrews at first only whispered His name יהוה when they encountered in scriptures and later stopped even doing that. We don't know which vowels go between the consonants.

There is only one God and so calling on “God” essentially is calling on Him. There is a request being made of Him ad that is not being phased politely or lovingly, but demandingly and what is being demanded is the most awful fate possible. I do not believe that he appreciates or condones that phase at all. Ignorance may be forgiven but I don’t think He will forgive a lack of repentance covered in sophistry.

Some people lose focus. They get bogged down in the minutia and forget the importance of Trump fighting for us and the country.

Trust me. Trump's comments at this rally are the LEAST of our worries.

He and the country have bigger fish to fry than to fritter it away discussing how he may have misspoke at a campaign rally, offending a few who are offended at the slightest thing that they don't like.

He cannot garner support from millions of people without a few of them getting their panties in a twist by his comments.

Trump is not perfect by any means but he is exceptional. We should be counting our blessings we have him as president and not spend time trying to "perfect" him.

Much to do about nothing.

Some Christians need to get their priorities straight. Trump is in his seventies - he's what he is and that's not going to change. What matters is what he's doing to help right this country.

As POTUS, he shouldn’t have used those words but agree with your baby and bath water.

DU has a thread on this, of course. Had to spray the puter down with Lysol after peeking in on them.

Makes one wonder if the FReeper who posted that also contacted the Charlotte Observer. It’s not likely FR is high on the Observer’s must check daily list.

The MSM has no use for Free Republic until they can find a FReeper stupid enough to trash our president. Then whatever that FReeper said is worthy of going into print.

I try to pick my moments to disagree with Trump very carefully, and word it as best I can, for just this reason.

Trump is not perfect. We didn’t vote for him because he was.

We voted for him because he’s 400% closer to being perfect to hold the highest office in the world, than any other person alive.

We had our chance to vote for a Christian and realized we needed a person who was very forceful, a scrapper, a person that would not lay down and be walked on.

Anyone who doesn’t agree with this, can kiss my ass and go off to join any number of other forums that love to pick apart Trump moment to moment.

I don’t approve of that language, but I am not as temperate as I should be either, proud of it or not.

Folks, it’s Trump or bust. Pull your head out and accept the reality we are faced with in 2019.

Quit giving the MSM a sound-byte they can’t pass up.

Idiots!

“Other critics of the president’s language have been less polite than Hardesty. A commenter on FreeRepublic.com accused the president of “blaspheming” and “mocking” God and warned of sure retribution.

“It will not matter if you are a street sweeper or the leader of the greatest Republic on earth … … GOD will drop you like a stone,” the commenter warned”.

I would sure like to know who that poster was.

Although I’d prefer Trump not to use that phrase, Jehovah is the Lord’s name (in the Judeo-Christian beliefs), not “God.” God is a title that has been used to refer to many, many entities like Apollo, Wotan, Shiva, etc. It is not a name. The phrase may be disrespectful, but it not taking the Lord’s name in vain.
