Google and Facebook are Watching YOU as you watch Porn even in incognito mode
NYT ^ | July 17, 2019 | Charlie Warzel

Silicon Valley’s biggest companies are always watching you — even when you’re browsing pornography websites in incognito mode. What these companies might be doing with pornography-site browsing data is a mystery. Oracle, which owns a number of large data brokers and has been called a “privacy deathstar,” could, for example add data collected by trackers with its current profiles. Dr. Maris argues that this lack of disclosure is similar to the issue of sexual consent. “As in any sexual interaction, silence must not be mistaken for consent,” she said. “Individuals should have a clear understanding of the power dynamics of the sexual exchange they are entering when visiting porn sites.” Those power dynamics, according to Dr. Maris, are deeply unbalanced. “You have some of the world’s most powerful companies here,” she said, noting that there’s very little redress for the consumer should the data end up in the wrong hands.

I think that headline should read, “Google and Facebook are ALWAYS watching everything you do on the internet”.

They that search google, are searched by Google.

I don’t watch porn, so take your stupid article and go to hell with it. Don’t make assumptions about your readers.

Announcing the new “Google Hush” service. For a mere 20% of your monthly income (don’t worry, Google knows how much) Google will agree not to send your browsing history to your wife.

Just as you are, by posting and visiting this page. Yes even with Brave. Yes even with Tor. Yes, despite everything you think you're doing to prevent it.

They will use the data for blackmailing people. They probably already use it to manipulate the armed forces, using th data to force people to spy for foreign countries. Forcing CEOs to make decisions that are favorable to the person(s) who hold the data.. Its a doomsday info dump waiting to happen.

Google is watching you posting to FR as well. If you take a look at the HTML of this very page, at the bottom we have
  <script src="http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript">_uacct = "UA-2288668-1"; urchinTracker();</script>
And they can thus associate every politically-incorrect thing you say here, with your real identity, at whatever point they choose

And everything you do before and after, and no, not dependent on the cookie. Again, if you feel better using tools that you think protect your identity, go for it, but they don't.

I've been in the industry for over 20 years. We can even track your cash purchases in stores. The data sharing we do across industries is unbelievable, and completely legal. But if you think you can get in your car, go make a cash purchase, and industry not know who you are, what you bought, what you did before, after and otherwise is just ignorance.

But you are still being tracked. It is the principle.

I never checked, and am a bit surprised. It's not just posting; Google is watching you read this page. It doesn't have to be that way.

But the site administrators have chosen to use google analytics, which sends all the traffic data (every hit) to Google.

You might not watch porn, but the point is all of your web surfing — including your Free Republic activity — is being captured and stored. It may not matter so much now, but some day, for someone, it’ll matter severely.

If you don’t, then the article is not addressed to you and doesn’t apply to you. :)

What about those that use a smart TV for google, Youtube, etc., but never actually log in.

I think that if someone uses a smart TV but never logs into anything, they are automatically in “anonymous” mode since there are no credentials.
