Trump says China is 'letting us down' by not buying US farm products during trade talks

China is not purchasing U.S. crops as the world's two largest economies scramble to end their trade war, President Donald Trump said Thursday.

The president tweeted that Beijing "is letting us down" by not buying American agricultural products "that they said they would." The development could bode poorly for efforts to reach a trade agreement, as U.S. officials have said they expect China to purchase crops as part of ongoing talks.

"Hopefully they will start soon!" Trump said.

This could be the biggest haggling session ever. Glad we have Trump on our side.

The deal we swing with China will be the starting point for dealings with every other country on the list, so it is vital we get the best deal possible.

The concept of “win-win” is not in the Chinese vocabulary. Hit them and hit them hard, that’s what they understand...”You Win, I Lose”.

We “need” their exports because we have an unsatiable appetite for consumer goods and the components and raw materials the now make. But just name one food items that Americans consume that comes from China...

On the other hand, they NEED what we grow in abundance to EAT! Soybeans, pork, wheat for noodles...staples of the Chinese diet.

They need our exports a lot more than we need theirs. At some cost and pain we could make what we get from them ourselves. They cannot feed their people on what they grow, Chinese agriculture is terribly inefficient and inadequate. They want to stall? Fine, we’ll keep our old iPhones a while longer and they can starve.

Of course they will try stalling because it worked in the past. They have never met up with an adversary who is willing to bust their balls in public and call them out. Once they figure out how Trump does it, then they may have a chance to get somewhere.

It has been two and a half YEARS this has been going on.

I know. That was following three DECADES of every one, in both parties, selling out America.

But this is what ran on. This why (in my opinion) he won.

Time to take a stand, Mr. President.

Now. For real.

This must be fake news, as we all know that trade wars are good and easy to win.

China will stall in order to force Trump to either give in to their demands or to watch Iowa and other states that have lots of farmers swing toward Dems in 2020. The Chinese know American electoral politics. They know that Republican Senator Joni Ernst may be concerned about her re-election efforts in Iowa and that Trump can’t afford to lose that seat.

There are a LOT of Americans, who will enthusiastically support Trump standing up for Americans,

A lot. Lots of them, are currently democrats.

They WILL vote for Trump, if he stops messing around, and gets serious about American jobs.

30 years, everybody has been selling out.

Everyone.

Trump said he would do something.

He did. It is why he won.

So Trump, DO SOMETHING.

China is responsible for 90 percent of the vitamin (C) consumed by Americans, 78 percent of the tilapia, 70 percent of the apple juice, 50 percent of the cod, 43 percent of the processed mushrooms and 23 percent of the garlic.

VERY interesting.

The garlic I knew about (am surprised the % is not higher), the tilapia, sure, and maybe even the apple juice (heck, I’ll bet WalMart & Aldi make up half of the 70%). The cod is a bit of a surprise (I guess those Chinese fishermen really ARE everywhere!), and maybe the shrooms. But, 90% of the Vitamin C? What happened to the US Citrus industry?! And, for that matter, I almost never see China as a source for pineapple, grapefruit, etc. Is that 90% (other than the apple juice) all supplements of some sort?

We also import lots of processed pork from China, but, I’d think that’s taking a hit now, what with most of their pigs dying of their pig plague — unless they are sending diseased meat — likely?

How much of our grain exports to China are gonna get (or have been) whacked by all (well, a LOT) of their pigs dying of their pig plague?
