Housing costs have become so expensive in some cities that people are renting bunk beds in a communal home for $1,200 a month. Not a bedroom. A bed.

PodShare is trying to help make up for the shortage of affordable housing in cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles by renting dormitory-style lodging and providing tenants a co-living experience.

Looks like a really innovative solution to the high cost living problem in SF and LA. Good article. My only complaint is it doesn't cover the common living areas like the bath rooms, dining areas, and lounges. For example, many senior living facilities have relatively small apartments for their residents, good dining facilities, and very nice common areas.

For anyone who's been in the military, the living doesn't look that bad.

"dormitory-style living"

Just takes one person to bring bedbugs in, then all will be fed on in short time as they multiply.

Then each person takes bedbugs to where ever they go, work place being one.

Maybe it doesn’t look so bad to live this way, but you can buy a heck of a house with a $1200 per month mortgage in flyover country.

Noooo! All of us in flyover country have bibles in one hand, rifles in the other, and long beards flowing sideways in the wind. We don’t have indoor plumbing, electricity, sunlight, or internet. Coastal people need to save themselves and stay in the safety of the coasts.

I thought you can rent a single apartment for that and a one-bedroom one for $2,000.

reminds me of the boarding houses of yore. My dad lived in boarding houses in his early twenties, as he worked on different construction jobs, pre-WWii. It was normal.

What happens when the lights go out?

Or is Francois gay?

I didn’t know people in the military paid 1200 a month for their bunk bed.

During my second tour in Korea I had a private room as an E-4. Unheard of in the 2nd Division. Still had to walk 100 yards to the latrine.

This program doesn’t give you one place to live. As a subscriber you can stay in any location at any time. You can tour the country.

Can someone please tell me why CA simply can’t allow developers to design sleeping rooms or efficiency apartments designed as hotel buildings?
