Twenty-eight days after former Special Counsel Robert Mueller declared that he had nothing more to say about the results of his 2-year investigation into President Trump, he unreservedly agreed to testify before Congress. It almost seems as though his playing coy was just part of some broader impeachment strategy.
In his statement at the conclusion of his investigation on May 29, Mueller said: I do not believe it is appropriate for me to speak further about the investigation or to comment on the actions of the Justice Department or Congress. And its for that reason I will not be taking questions today, as well.
In case the meaning was lost on anybody, he stated that the report is my testimony.
Thats what he claimed, anyway. But in that very statement, he went beyond the report, adding new impeachment bait by stating that the only reason he didnt pursue an obstruction charge was that he couldnt prosecute Trump while hes in office.
Former prosecutor Andrew McCarthy of National Review called it an explosive statement, that runs against what we had heard up until now that the Office of Legal Council guidance was the reason why they didnt make a decision about obstruction.
So lets review.
Muellers 400+ page report goes public on April 18, with half the report spent on the question of whether Trump tried to obstruct justice. Mueller says the investigation couldnt decide whether what Trump did was a crime or not, but nevertheless detailed everything they could find that hinted at it thereby adding a horrible new wrinkle to American jurisprudence: not innocent.

At Mueller’s exit party (the press conference), he look frail and shaky. Mueller’s health seems to be going downhill.
F-ing criminal and a disgrace to the uniform.
I think his health is going to go downhill further after the Republicans get through with their questioning.
How many ‘D’ lawyers did Mueller hire versus non-partisan? Yet no finding at all for the putative charge of Russia. What a travesty!
Mueller appears to be “all in” against America.
Will Republicans really be allowed to seriously question him?
Why do I believe there will be a LOT of handmaid-type “disruptions” and 5A?
Other than leftist loons, no one even gives a damn about this crap anymore.
I truly believe that Mueller will not show.
Remember....A few minutes before Bubba left the Whitehouse on his last day, his attorney steeped to the mike....and said there was a deal between Bubba and the DOJ. One of the terms was that he could not be prosecuted for anything that occurred while he was President.
If he “forgot” his cell phone in the oval office with the intent to listen in, I think that would fall within the federal wiretap statutes. It MIGHT be covered for one party intercepts while on his person, but after he installs it in the oval office by forgetting it, without a court order, I believe he would be culpable. I also believe that if so, as soon as it gets corroborated before Congress, he get arrested and charged. (maybe these guys have been watching Charlie Wilson’s War too much).
The questioning, if the Republicans aren’t completely gutless, is simple. “Mr. Mueller, since when is it a prosecutors job to find the subject of an investigation innocent? I thought in this country we start with the subject to be presumed innocent.”
Mueller shouldnt say anything more than what he reported. But then, given his conflicts, he shouldnt" have accepted the gig in the first place. If theres anything Mueller wont do, ethics have nothing to do with it.
The Republicans will ask Mueller, The first half of your report says that there were no collusion between any American and the Russians interested in meddling in our election. When did you know that, and why did it take two years to report that?
But the real question is, Why were all your hires Democrats - were they the only people you could county on not to know, and act on, the fact that there was 'no there there' within a week?"
It was so immensely OBVIOUS he couldn’t wait to testify when he said he wouldn’t.
It is interesting Rod Rosenstein dosen’t warrant much interest by the house or senate committees. He is the the guy that doubled down on the Trump witch hunt and authorized the SC.
