Global warming is great! I think of it as
delaying the onset of the next Ice Age.

“The California of my teenaged years is long gone............”

Surely a true statement. My “teenaged years” ended in 1960. When I get together with my HS classmates, the number one topic of discussion is just how lucky we were to grow up in Northern California in the 1950’s

“Being in Northern California only provides you with a delay. “

Also true! But consider the fact that to a lesser extent, what is happening in CA is also happening in every state in the union. So what’s the point in running? So we conservatives can all live in Oklahoma, a state that was originally set up to “house all the Indians?”

We have done some preemptive things including selling our income property in CA and moving the proceeds (tax free) to AZ and NV. And we are keeping a weather eye on the R/E values on the two homes we own here. Being near our children and their children has a priority for us, although our son may be the first to kick it in and move to Western Nevada where we also now own a home. But the problem with Nevada now is that Las Vegas, liberal $hithole that it is, now has enough population to control the entire state. In truth, Nevada could “go California” a lot quicker than CA did, and I can tell you, just like those of us who live in places where the RAT $hit hasn’t taken hold locally yet, the people in Northern Nevada are both pissed and scared. Our place is in Douglas County, where there are no Democrats and lots of folks carry guns routinely. I had a guy tell me last time I was there that they want to sever Clark County from the rest of the state just like people here want to cut off LA and San Francisco. So what’s the answer? At our age, we can weather the storm for the rest of our lives, but in so doing, how can we look our kids in the eye?
For me, the traffic congestion is a bigger problem that the RAT Pack in Sacramento at this juncture.
And as an aside, we went to a block party last week in Nevada. NONE of our new neighbors are from Nevada. Almost to the man, they are from SoCal. My wife was the only Nevada native, since she was born in Fallon, although she grew up in Las Vegas ( back when it was a little town), and has lived with me in CA for 55 years.

High blood sugar can be tested with a simple and very quick blood test using a handheld monitor that is available in any US pharmacy. I assume it is common in every hospital worldwide. The amount of keytones present can be measured by peeing on a test strip. Type 1 diabetes is very easy to diagnose with the most basic of equipment.

If they say the girl has diabetes, she probably does.

We’re of the same age. I grew up in Texas in those years, and even though California was a long way from Texas, the movie “American Graffiti” nailed the scene for us.

Me either...

I can’t win a drawing with more than 1 person in it, but if there’s a one in a gazillion chance of something bad happening, the odds are against me.

I just had some friends go, stay a week, and come back safely.

It was a 50-ish man and woman, and a 23 year old son, plus the 16 year old daughter.

And, the man is definitely a drinker.

American Grafitti was actually made in Petaluma, CA where our daughter and her family live. Each year Petaluma has an “American Grafitti Celebration.” Last year, they “reenacted the scene where the cop car's rear axle is chained up and is pulled out of the car when it heads out to chase one of the Pharoah’s cars. The vacant lot where the original scene was shot. is still as it was when the movie was made. I've actually spoken to the guy who still owns the Thunderbird that Susanne Somers drove. It's his wife's car. She took it shopping one day and found a piece of a brown paper bag under the windshield wiper from the director asking if he could use the car in the movie.
